Previous issue date: 2006-05-10 / This work presents an analysis about the alimentary restrictions in the community of New Earth, in the municipal district of Careiro of Várzea, State of Amazon. The study intends context that way the limitations and alimentary prohibitions order the daily experience in the world of the Amazon populations in its culture environment. Among the lifted up hypotheses were noticed that the limitation of the natural resources imposed by the environment, the forms of the community s social bedding, the lay and political sanctions of the widest society, the implications of economic order, as well as the preferences and individual tastes are responsible factors for the existence of the alimentary restrictions. The research stands out that the discussions concerning these restrictions are important to understand the behavior of the different human societies and its relationship with the lived atmosphere. The objectives that they address the present study he/she/it expresses in it analyzes it in the way the alimentary taboos they affect the life of the Amazon populations and its relationship with the nature. The methodology based on an investigation ethnographic with the intention of trying to unmask the processes of choice of the food for the population. The place of the field research was in a small community of farmers and fishermen cail Vile of New Earth, located in the island belonging to the municipal district of Careiro of Várzea in the State of Amazon. The procedure method was the monograph and the used techniques went to observant participation and the life histories, interviews and questionnaires. The results showed that the habits alimentary places are influenced and limited by the systems of local restrictions, for the alternation of the natural resources and of the values of the market, for legal and political impositions of the society, besides the different symbolic representations of the studied population. / Este trabalho apresenta uma análise sobre as restrições alimentares na comunidade de Terra Nova, no município do Careiro da Várzea, Estado do Amazonas. O estudo pretende contextualizar de que modo as limitações e proibições alimentares ordenam a experiência cotidiana no mundo das populações amazônicas em seu meio ambiente sociocultural. Dentre as hipóteses levantadas percebeu-se que a limitação dos recursos naturais imposta pelo meio ambiente, as formas de estratificação social da comunidade, as sanções legais e políticas da sociedade mais ampla, as implicações de ordem econômica, bem como as preferências e gostos individuais são fatores responsáveis pela existência das restrições alimentares. A pesquisa ressalta que as discussões acerca destas restrições são importantes para compreender o comportamento das diferentes sociedades humanas e a sua relação com o ambiente vivido. Os objetivos que norteiam o presente estudo se expressam na analise da forma os tabus alimentares afetam a vida das populações amazônicas e a sua relação com a natureza. A metodologia baseou-se em uma investigação etnográfica com o intuito de tentar desvendar os processos de escolha do alimento pela população. O local da pesquisa de campo foi em uma pequena comunidade de agricultores e pescadores chamada Vila de Terra Nova, localizada na ilha pertencente ao município do Careiro da Várzea, no Estado do Amazonas. O método de procedimento foi o monográfico e as técnicas utilizadas foram a participação observante e as histórias de vida, entrevistas e questionários. Os resultados mostraram que os hábitos alimentares locais são influenciados e limitados pelos sistemas de restrições locais, pela alternância dos recursos naturais e dos valores do mercado, por imposições legais e políticas da sociedade, além das diferentes representações simbólicas da população estudada.
