Memoria para optar al Título Profesional de Médico Veterinario / La domesticación de los perros es un proceso de larga data, integrándose como parte fundamental de las familias y a la sociedad. Pero, este proceso no ha sido llevado de manera responsable por los seres humanos, ya que el número de perros abandonados y de vida libre ha experimentado un aumento en los últimos años. Frente a esto, se vuelve prioritario un proceso de formación para que las personas que van a obtener una mascota, conozcan sus responsabilidades, junto con identificar las necesidades y cuidados que requieren los perros, para que puedan mantener una buena calidad de vida.
Para avanzar en este proceso de formación, los profesionales Médicos Veterinarios, son centrales, ya que hay una responsabilidad con la comunidad, en torno a la educación de la tenencia responsable de perros. Los niños y niñas son más receptivos al nuevo conocimiento y lo asimilan de forma más natural que los adultos.
Por lo anterior, es que el objetivo de esta memoria fue evaluar los aprendizajes en una unidad educativa sobre Tenencia Responsable de perros, en estudiantes de 5° año básico.
La investigación se inició con el diagnóstico de los conocimientos previos de los estudiantes acerca de Tenencia Responsable de perros y sus cuidados básicos. En base a lo anterior, se diseñó una unidad educativa utilizando metodologías activo-participativas sobre Tenencia Responsable de perros. Ésta, se aplicó a 20 estudiantes de quinto año básico de la Escuela Básica Marta Brunet, cuyas edades fluctuaron entre los 10 y 13 años.
Se aplicaron instrumentos cuantitativos y cualitativos para su evaluación, donde los resultados mostraron un aumento de los puntajes totales al terminar la unidad educativa. Además, las metodologías activo-participativas permitieron que los estudiantes fueran parte de su proceso educativo, reforzando conocimientos que ya tenían y creando otros nuevos. También, los espacios de discusión permitieron la reflexión acerca de las prácticas de cuidado de los estudiantes para con sus perros, logrando un aprendizaje significativo / The domestication of dogs is a long-standing process integrating itself as a fundamental part of families and society. However, this process has not been considered responsibly by human beings, evidenced by the rise in abandoned and free-living dogs in recent years. Considering this, a training process for people that are planning on obtaining a pet becomes a high priority; so they can know their responsabilities, along with identifying the needs and cares that dogs require to mantain a good quality of life.
In order to develop this training process, Veterinarians are a centerpiece, since there is a sense of responsability towards the community, involving Responsible Dog Ownership. Young children are more receptive to new knowledge and assimilate it more naturally compared to adults.
Therefore, the goal of this study was to evaluate 5th grade students beign taught an educational unit on responsible dog ownership.
The investigation started with a diagnosis meant to idenfify the students' prior knowledge about Responsible Dog Ownership and their basic cares. With this as a foundation, an education unit was designed using active-participatory methodologies on Responsible Dog Ownership. It was applied to 20 fifth grade students from the Escuela Básica Marta Brunet school, whose ages vary between 10 and 13 years old.
Quantitative and qualitative instruments where applied for the evaluation. Results showed an increase of the total scores upon completion of the educational unit. The active-participatory methodologies allowed students to be part of their own educational process, reinforcing their prior knowledge while also creating new insights. The debate spaces also allowed consideration about the care practices of the students towards their dogs, achieving significant learning
