Framställningars makt i svenska domstolar : En intersektionell innehållsanalys av LUL-rättsfall från svenska domstolar

The aim of this study was to examine the depiction of juvenile delinquents who were charged with battery or assault in swedish court cases and analyse how the delinquents are constructed in swedish court cases. Moreover we study how concepts of ethnicity and gender individually and together affect the depiction of juvenile delinquents in swedish court cases. Through a document study of nine swedish court cases, the use of intersectional theory and a content analysis of the depictions in those cases, we found that there are depictions based on stereotypes of ethnicity and gender in the swedish court cases. While reading the court cases we were able to find different categories of depictions based on skin color, background, gender roles and violence. Furthermore the we have found that social services depict the juvenile delinquents in different ways, sometimes focusing on the delinquents alcohol- and drug habits and other times on their diagnosis or state of mind. In conclusion we argue that these depictions based on stereotypical concepts of ethnicity and gender in combination with social services’ unequal depiction contribute to a construction of some juvenile delinquents as more deviant than others. We argue that this construction contribute to an increased risk of discrimination for some juvenile delinquents in the swedish courts.
