Previous issue date: 2000 / Resumo: A partir da análise de uma tradução realizada por Osmyr Faria Gabbi Jr., dos manuscritos freudianos de Entwuif einer Psychologie, esta dissertação aborda a delicada relação do homem com a linguagem, especialmente se essa relação se dá no interior de um evento que coloca juntas a tradução e a psicanálise. Esta dissertação examina os recursos tradutórios dos quais Gabbi Jr. lançou mão para com eles tentar realizar o seu declarado projeto: localizar na estrutura de Entwuif as idéias filosóficas de Stuart Mill e, ao mesmo tempo, desautorizar outras leituras, que na sua opinião, contribuem para uma visão equivocada dessa obra. A partir da perspectiva descontrutivista de Jacques Derrida, que reflete sobre o caráter transformador da tradução, e das idéias de Nicholas Abraham acerca da natureza anassêmica do discurso freudiano, minha dissertação localiza na tradução de Gabbi Jr. os traços que apontam que o tradutor, em sua relação com o texto original freudiano, está sob o domínio do jogo sempre proposto pela linguagem. Diante do original, longe de poder revirar suas entranhas e arrancar-lhe a origem, o tradutor está, na verdade, sob o domínio do jogo de promessas proposto pela língua, suportando o double bind e sendo assombrado pelo discurso anassêmico de Freud. Afinal, no derradeiro limite entre a promessa e o projeto, entre o que é prometido e o que é realizado, encontra-se o tradutor e seu ofício, a quem não é dado fugir desse jogo, livrar-se dessa paixão imposta pelo double bind, esquivar-se do assombro da anassemia, senão deixar-se à deriva da promessa para no seu encalço, como em busca do sonho, realizar aquilo que acredito ser sua tarefa singular, dar sobrevida a um e a todos os textos / Abstract: Analyzing the translation of the manuscript of Entwuif einer Psychologie made by Osmyr Faria Gabbi Jr., this dissertation approaches the delicate relation between man and language, specially if this relationship takes place in the interior of such an event which draws together translation and psychoanalysis. This thesis examine the translation devices used by Gabbi Jr. when trying to fullfil his so said project: to spot the philosophical ideas of Stuart Mill in the structure of Entwuif. At the same time throught his translation, Gabbi Jr. hopes to discredit other readings that, in his opinion, contribute to a misinterpretation of such work. From the interior of Derrida's deconstruction and his reflections about the way tmaslation transforms the original, and also taking into account Nicholas Abraham's ideas about the anassemic condition of Freud's language, my work points out in Gabbi Jr.'s translation the traces that shows how the translator deals with Freud's originaIs. Far from being able to get into its guts and getting there the origem, the translator is, in fact, within the game of promisses proposed by any language, supporting the double bind and being haunted the the anassemic discourse of Fremd. Finally, in the very far limits between promisses and project, between what is promised and what is accomplished we find the translator and his/her task. Language is the game he/she is not allowed to escape from, it is the passion he/she is not permitted to get rid of, it is the language haunted by the anassemy that keeps the translator captive in the process of translation necessity and impossibility. All the translator is allowed is to pursue this promise, as if chasing a dream. This is what I name the singular character of his/her task: to promote the survival of one and of alI texts / Mestrado / Mestre em Linguística Aplicada
