Previous issue date: 2007 / This study it had as objective to verify some questions on the development of the baby with visual deficiency and its attendance in early intervention. The feelings and the mother's relationship to the baby also took a privileged part in this research, due to the important role that they play during the process of the child's development. For the accomplishment of this inquiry, it was opted to the qualitative research, involving case study, for which seven mothers of visual deficient children and three professionals enabled to the work had been interviewed. The analysis of the interviewed' speech was made based on the directed methodology to this end, in which the testimonials were organized in categories and sub-categories. The interrelation of collected data, made possible through qualitative textual analysis, allowed the matching with the theoretical basis, confirming some questions presented by the researched authors. Conclusion presents answers to the directing questions, defined at the beginning of this research, and ends up with some suggestions to the improvement of the intervention's work offered to the population. We hope the results of this research may definitely contribute to the improvement of the impaired babies' quality of life, as well as their families', trough the possible use of these studies in planning the early intervention services. / Este estudo teve como objetivo verificar aspectos do desenvolvimento do bebê com deficiência visual e seu atendimento em intervenção precoce. Os sentimentos e a relação das mães com seu bebê também ocuparam um espaço privilegiado nesta pesquisa, em razão do importante papel que estas desempenham durante o processo de desenvolvimento infantil. Para a realização desta investigação, optou-se pela pesquisa qualitativa, envolvendo estudo de caso, para a qual foram entrevistadas sete mães de crianças deficientes visuais e três profissionais capacitados para o trabalho de intervenção precoce com bebês que apresentam esta deficiência. A análise dos discursos dos entrevistados foi realizada a partir da metodologia direcionada para este fim, na qual os depoimentos foram organizados em categorias e subcategorias. A inter-relação dos dados coletados, possibilitada pela análise textual qualitativa, permitiu o confronto com a fundamentação teórica, confirmando algumas questões apresentadas pelos autores pesquisados. A conclusão apresenta respostas às questões norteadoras, definidas no início desta pesquisa, e finaliza com algumas sugestões para a melhoria do trabalho de intervenção oferecido à população. Esperamos que os resultados desta pesquisa possam contribuir definitivamente para a melhoria da qualidade de vida dos bebês deficientes visuais e suas famílias, pela possibilidade do aproveitamento destes estudos no planejamento de serviços de intervenção precoce.
