Previous issue date: 21 / Nenhuma / O presente estudo trabalha a noção de desenvolvimento, refletindo sobre essa idéia a partir das principais teorias presentes nas Ciências Sociais. Tem como objetivo principal captar as representações sociais sobre o desenvolvimento, a partir do que pensam e verbalizam os agentes sociais que dominam o campo econômico, político e cultural do municipio de Santa Maria-RS. Com base nas suas noções de desenvolvimento desses campos, buscou-se investigar como os agentes vêem a cidade. Justifica-se este estudo sobre representações sociais não só porque esta categoria contribui para compreender como a realidade cotidiana estrutura-se e organiza-se, como também porque, ao apreender as representações, é possível entender as justificações que os indivíduos dão às tomadas de posicionamentos que apresentam na interação com os diversos grupos. Its main objective is to identify the social representations about development, through the thoughts and discourse of the social agents that dominate the economical, political and cultural spheres of the city of Santa Maria-RS, Brazil. Based on the concept these spheres have about development, this research seeks to examine how the agents perceive the city. This study on representations will allow identifying the contributions of this category to understand how everyday reality is structured and organized. In addition to that, by apprehending representations, it is possible to understand the reasons people give for their attitudes when interacting with different groups.
