Este estudo é uma análise histórica comparativa do desenvolvimento socioeconômico das
regiões norte e sul de Goiás, desde a descoberta do ouro em 1723, até quando se deu a
bipartição de Goiás em 1988, originando o estado do Tocantins. No desenvolvimento da
pesquisa analisou-se não só a importância do território e a regionalização da economia
brasileira no início do século XX, mas também os aspectos socioeconômicos da antiga região
norte e sul de Goiás, apontando os fatores históricos que foram determinantes para o
desenvolvimento de cada uma. Analisou-se o desenvolvimento da pecuária, agricultura,
estradas, ferrovias, portos e a origem da formação da população de Goiás. Na metodologia a
abordagem escolhida foi a qualitativa. Como instrumento de coleta de dados utilizou-se da
pesquisa documental e bibliográfica. Concluiu-se com a pesquisa que os fatores determinantes
da diferença no desenvolvimento de Goiás e Tocantins não são recentes, acumularam-se ao
longo dos anos, provocando a enorme diferença populacional, urbanística e econômica
existente hoje entre os dois estados. / This research is a comparative historical analysis of the socio-economic development of the
northern and southern regions of the state of Goiás, since the discovery of gold in 1723 to the
secession of Goiás in 1988, resulting in the state of Tocantins. In the development of the
research it was analyzed not only the importance of the territory and the regionalization of the
Brazilian economy in the early twentieth century, but also the socioeconomic aspects of the
former northern and southern regions of the state of Goiás, pointing out the historical factors
that were instrumental in the development of each region. It was also analyzed the
development of livestock, agriculture, roads, railways, ports and the origin of the
establishment of the population of Goiás. Regarding methodology, the approach was
qualitative. As tool for data collection it was used documentary and bibliographic research. It
was possible to conclude after the research that the factors determining the difference in the
development of Goiás and Tocantins are not recent; they have accumulated over the years,
causing huge populational, urban and economic difference existing currently between the two
states.
