The consequences of drought are posed to continue reducing agricultural productivity as world climate changes. This makes it imperative to improve tolerance of staple food crops to drought. Under drought stress, reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulate, which may lead to oxidative damage of DNA, proteins and lipids.
