The rampancy of traditional EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Services) has close dependency of personal computer industry. In addition, the open and innovation of Chinese government which has provided the cheaper production cost either on lands or labor forces and which has yet leaded to the boom of electronic and information technology industries. Meanwhile, the maturity of semi-conductor fabrication and TFT LCD industry have also bring up the fast growth of LCD TV¡Xthe territory belongs to traditional home appliance, but now has became one of the new and promising sectors of IT industry. EMS players have been utilizing the cumulated knowledge on digital product design and fast manufacturing with lower cost but higher quality. Therefore, the traditional suppliers of home appliance will be no longer competitive in such fast booming product sector but which on the contrary gives EMS a new venture and new platform to ultimately perform himself following the PC and PC related industries.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the possible winning strategy of P company who has been successful in EMS industry of PC, communication and consumer products, when devotes himself to new challenge of LCD TV product line. P company has been established strong research and development capability and global manufacturing sites. However, LCD TV is known as a capital intensive industry but with lesser margin and profit than PC, notebook. How to integrate the strength and advantages from product designing, components procurement, supply chain management, efficient manufacturing, sales and marketing innovation and global logistics should be the critical factors to succeed from competition.
My study utilize Porter Five Forces, Value Chain analysis and Product Lifecycle to come up with the wining strategy for P company and other EMS engaged players. Especially for the very key component as TFT LCD display has been the major and most expensive part for whole LCD TV set. How to minimize the impact of LCD display supply by using other methodology and create EMS¡¦ inherent value can be the useful strategy for long-term business management.
