Previous issue date: 2012-05-30 / This study aimed to analyze the image and attitudes that students in higher education have in relation to Statistics, by means of a comparative study before and after the students coursing discipline. The research involved a sample of students enrolled in the discipline of Statistics in undergraduate courses in Administration, Accounting and Information Systems, in a private college in the metropolitan area of Porto Alegre. For data analysis tools were used in descriptive statistics and results were compared with the study validated by Cazorla et al (1999). The scale showed good internal consistency in the second questionnaire, with Cronbach's alpha of 0.86. An exploratory factor analysis identified three underlying factors based on the original scale for the discussion of the results: confidence / affection / security, importance / applicability and utility / skill. Comparing the attitudes and the image that students have in relation to statistics before and after coursing discipline, it was found that students sometimes have attitudes favorable and sometimes unfavorable image, may be supposed that this fact is linked to other factors not covered bu this study as the methodology of the teacher, learning difficulties, classroom environment, etc. Even with this type of behavior, students recognize the applicability of statistical knowledge. / Esse trabalho teve como objetivo analisar a imagem e as atitudes que os alunos de cursos superiores possuem em rela??o ? Estat?stica, por meio de um estudo comparativo antes e depois de cursarem a disciplina. A investiga??o envolveu uma amostra de alunos matriculados na disciplina de Estat?stica nos cursos de gradua??o de Administra??o, Ci?ncias Cont?beis e Sistemas de Informa??o de uma faculdade particular da regi?o metropolitana de Porto Alegre. Para a an?lise dos dados foram utilizadas ferramentas da Estat?stica Descritiva e os resultados foram confrontados com o estudo validado por Cazorla et al (1999). A escala apresentou boa consist?ncia interna no segundo question?rio, com Alpha de Cronbach de 0,86. Uma an?lise fatorial explorat?ria identificou tr?s fatores subjacentes baseados na escala original para a discuss?o dos resultados: autoconfian?a/afeto/seguran?a, import?ncia/aplicabilidade e utilidade/habilidade. Comparando-se as atitudes e a imagem que os alunos possuem em rela??o ? Estat?stica antes e depois de cursarem a disciplina, verificou-se que os estudantes ora possuem atitudes e imagem favor?veis ora desfavor?veis, podendo se supor que este fato esteja ligado a outros fatores n?o contemplados por esse estudo, como: metodologia do professor, dificuldade de aprendizagem, ambiente de sala de aula, etc. Mesmo com este tipo de comportamento, os alunos reconhecem a aplicabilidade dos conhecimentos estat?sticos.
