Previous issue date: 2000 / Resumo: A presente Dissertação de Mestrado analisa a importância da interligação energética e seu papel na integração do Cone Sul. fuicialmente apresenta uma evolução histórica do uso da energia e as dificuldades que as sociedades encontram para definir a melhor alternativa energética. Com os choques do petróleo em 1973 e 1979, emergiram no mundo o que se convencionou chamar de grandes rupturas, entre elas a industrial, a financeira e a energética. Essas rupturas provocaram grandes transformações no mundo com a introdução de novos paradigmas, sobretudo aqueles vinculados às exigências das sociedades para se utilizarem de fontes energéticas menos poluidoras. Além disso, verifica-se o esforço do mundo em alterar a sua matriz energética para um modelo mais leve e mais "palatável", em termos ecológicos. Ao mesmo tempo, analisa-se o mundo globalizado dos últimos tempos, com seus efeitos controversos para as sociedades, culminando em pelo menos um denominador comum, qual seja, fazer emergir diversos blocos econômicos internacionais, como forma de autoproteção da própria globalização. No Cone Sul, destaca-se a criação do Mercosul, em 1991, cujo crescimento e consolidação acontecem numa velocidade muito acima da expectativa inicial, mostrando que o melhor caminho é a integração. A energia exerceu um papel preponderante nessa integração, com destaque para o gás natural que apresenta características e especificidades vantajosas, dentro das atuais exigências das sociedades de se direcionar para fontes energéticas mais limpas, mais leves e economicamente mais viáveis. Com tais condições vantajosas do gás natural, começa-se a desenhar uma rede de gasodutos no Cone Sul, formando um anel com diversos elos que caracterizam a interligação e consolida a integração / Abstract: The present Master Dissertation analyses the importance of the energy interconnection and it is role in the integration of South America. It is initially presented a historical evolution of the energy use, and the difficulties found by the society in defining the best energy altematives. In 1973 and 1979 with the oil price shock, it emerged in the world what was conventionally called the great ruptures, involving the industrial, financial and energy-system ruptures. Great changes followed those ruptures with the adoption of new paradigms, especially those constrained to the society demands in order to make use of less polluting energy resources, and then change the world energy mix into a environmentfriendly model. At the same time, it is made an analysis of the present globalized world, its contrasting effects upon the society, reaching at least a commonplace, the emergence of several intemational economic blocks, as a form of protection to the globalization process itself. In Southem Cone it must be pointed out the creation of Mercosur in 1991, which growing and consolidation are happening at a speed much higher than expected, showing that the integration of markets is the best way. The energy sector played a decisive role in this integration process, with prominence for the natural gas that presents advantageous features demanded by the society which requires c1eaner, lighter and economically more viable energy sources. Considering those advantages of natural gas, it has been set up a network of pipelines in the Southem Cone, forming a ring composed by several links that characterize interconnection and consolidate integration / Mestrado / Planejamento de Sistemas Energeticos / Mestre em Engenharia Mecânica
