O objetivo deste estudo foi estabelecer o perfil da Educação Física nas escolas públicas de Ensino Fundamental do município de Erechim, RS. Esta etapa preliminar da investigação, de caráter exploratório, procura estabelecer um perfil a partir da visão dos professores de Educação Física que atuam neste nível de ensino, no que se refere à formação acadêmica e experiência profissional dos professores; às instalações, os materiais e equipamentos disponíveis para as aulas; ao planejamento curricular; à constituição das turmas e ao status da disciplina no âmbito escolar. A pesquisa se caracteriza como de natureza descritiva e qualitativa. Foram realizadas onze entrevistas semi-estruturadas com professores de Educação Física que atuam no Ensino Fundamental de onze escolas públicas de Erechim, sendo quatro municipais e sete estaduais. Os resultados indicaram que todos os professores entrevistados são licenciados em Educação Física e realizaram cursos de especialização. Entretanto, apenas dois obtiveram sua especialização na área da Educação Física Escolar. Os resultados evidenciaram que há diferenças quanto à experiência profissional. Os professores das escolas estaduais têm mais tempo de docência do que os professores municipais. Quanto às instalações, materiais e equipamentos disponíveis para as aulas, os professores das escolas municipais consideraram suas condições adequadas, enquanto os das escolas estaduais as consideraram inadequadas. Os professores das escolas municipais e estaduais informaram que suas instituições possuem planejamento curricular para a Educação Física. Em relação à constituição das turmas, os professores do município as consideraram adequadas. Nas escolas estaduais, o número de alunos por turma é considerado excessivo. No âmbito escolar, os professores da rede municipal e estadual possuem uma boa relação com a direção, professores e alunos. Contudo, isto não significa que a comunidade escolar reconheça a Educação Física com o mesmo status das demais disciplinas. Considerando estes resultados, concluiu-se que há diferenças no perfil da Educação Física entre as escolas municipais e estaduais do Município, principalmente no que se refere às instalações, materiais e equipamentos e experiência profissional. / The objetive of this study was to establish the profile of Physical Education in public schools from Elementary School of the Erechim City, RS. This preliminary step of research, of exploratory inature, have de intention to establish a profile from the vision of Physical Education teachers who work on this level of education, regarding the teachers academic training and professional experience; the facilities, materials and available equipment for the lessons; the planning curriculum; the classes formation and the status of discipline in the school. The research is characterized as qualitative and descriptive origin. Eleven semi-structured interviews with Physical Education teachers who work in elementary education from eleven Erechim City public schools were performed; four from local administration and seven from state govern ones. The results indicated that all the interviewed teachers are qualified in Physical Education and had done specialization courses. However, only two had their specialization in the Physical Education in schools. The results showed that there are differences as the professional experience. Teachers from state schools have more time to teach than city school ones. About the facilities, materials and equipment available for classes, the city schools teachers consider their conditions more suitable than those from the state schools teachers who agree with them and also consider their own schools inadequate. The city and state schools teachers have reported that their institutions hold Physical Education curriculum planning. As the classes formation the teachers from city schools consider them appropriate. In state schools, the students number per class is considered excessive. In the school, the City and state teachers have a good relationship with the board, other teachers and students. However, does not mean that the school community recognizes the Physical Education as the same status as the other disciplines. Considering these results, the conclusion was that there are differences in the Physical Education profile between city and state schools in the same town, mainly about facilities, materials and equipment and professional experience.
