Previous issue date: 2013-05-24 / This Doctoral thesis has as objective studying the contents arranged in the works
contained in the Library of the Normal Course of a confessional Catholic college in
the city of Joinville, aimed at preparing young students of this course to play the role
of woman as wife and mother, in the decades of 1940 and 1950, assuming that,
besides the goal of training teachers, the Normal School also trained young students
to womanhood: marriage and motherhood, according to the standards of the time
and to a certain social class. To carry out the research documents stored in the
archive of the Santos Anjos School were verified, including documents of teaching
staff, subjects, reports on the history of the school and mainly the books kept in the
library, cataloged under the name "Old Works". Eight books concerning the status of
women were chosen, based on the following criteria: period of interest, titles and
content aimed at women and what she should have as knowledge basin, constituting
this contents the sources to verify the hypothesis described above. After the
completion of the reading of books, a regularity in the contents was observed, and
thereafter, the categories of analysis were established. It was found in the analyzed
works that the subject matter were mainly directed to the preparation of the girl who
would marry and have children with very specific guidelines for activities and habits
that would give the basis for the family. The grounding for a good training was on
preparing the woman to be good wife and housewife, able to nullify her feelings and
incorporate the feminine mind, donating entirely to the family, fulfilling her social class
role. The performance of the role involved resignation on the part of woman, in order
to fulfill her mission, the work that transcended the familiar environment, and should
reach the social environment in which she lived, also revealing her moral and
Christian function. The analysis of the works corroborated the hypothesis that the
normal school, not only sought to form the teacher, but also strove to prepare this
student for marriage and motherhood / Esta tese de doutoramento tem como objetivo estudar os conteúdos dispostos nas
obras constantes da Biblioteca do Curso Normal de um colégio confessional católico
na cidade de Joinville, voltados para a preparação das jovens normalistas para
exercer o papel de mulher como esposa e mãe, nas décadas de 1940 e 1950,
partindo da hipótese de que, além do objetivo de formar professoras, a Escola
Normal tinha também como finalidade formar as jovens estudantes para a condição
de mulher: o casamento e a maternidade, segundo os padrões da época e para uma
determinada classe social. Para efetivar a pesquisa foram verificados documentos
dispostos no arquivo morto do Colégio dos Santos Anjos, entre eles quadro de
professores, disciplinas, relatórios sobre a história do colégio e principalmente os
livros mantidos na biblioteca, catalogados sob a denominação Obras Antigas .
Foram escolhidos oito livros referentes à condição da mulher, a partir dos seguintes
critérios: período de interesse, títulos e conteúdos voltados à mulher e o que ela
deveria ter como base de conhecimento, constituindo-se estes como fontes para
verificar a hipótese acima descrita. Após a realização da leitura dos livros verificouse
uma regularidade nos conteúdos, sendo, a partir daí, estabelecidas as categorias
de análise. Constatou-se, nas obras analisadas, que os assuntos tratados dirigiamse
fundamentalmente à preparação da moça que se casaria e teria filhos, com
orientações muito específicas de atividades e hábitos que dariam a base para a
família. A fundamentação para uma boa formação constituía-se na preparação da
mulher para ser boa esposa e dona de casa, capaz de anular seus sentimentos e
incorporar o espírito feminino, doando-se inteiramente à família, cumprindo seu
papel social e de classe. O desempenho do papel envolvia doação e resignação por
parte da mulher, com vistas a cumprir sua missão, ofício que transcendia o âmbito
familiar, devendo atingir o meio social em que vivesse, revelando também sua
função moral e cristã. Constatou-se, através da análise das obras, conteúdos que
corroboram a hipótese de que a escola normal não apenas buscava formar a
professora, mas também empenhou-se para a preparação da normalista para o
matrimônio e para a maternidade
