Orientadora: Luciana Aparecida de Araújo Penitente / Banca: Silvio César Nunes Militão / Banca: Jaqueline Delgdo Paschoal / Resumo: A presente pesquisa investigou sobre as políticas nacionais referentes ao estudo da língua inglesa e a sua inserção no currículo escolar, partindo da inquietação sobre a qualidade do ensino de inglês e de seu aprendizado nas escolas públicas brasileiras. Teve por objetivo compreender e analisar os estudos e pesquisas que discutem sobre como as políticas públicas educacionais respaldaram o estudo da língua inglesa nas escolas brasileiras, compreender como se deu a evolução histórica desta disciplina no currículo e quais os documentos oficiais que atualmente oficializam e reconhecem a importância do conhecimento da língua inglesa para os estudantes no Brasil do século XXI. Para tanto, foi inicialmente feita uma análise histórica da importância da língua inglesa em nossa sociedade, os documentos a ela referentes e as alterações no currículo, desde a chegada da família real portuguesa, em 1808, até os dias de hoje. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida mediante revisão bibliográfica de estudos e pesquisas que discutem a temática em pauta e análise documental de documentos atuais brasileiros referentes à língua inglesa no currículo, partindo da Constituição de 1988 e analisando a LDB de 1996, os PCNs e a BNCC. A importância e as discussões sobre a língua inglesa desde a redemocratização do país e a legislação que a ela se referiu foram analisadas, levando em conta o papel do idioma na sociedade, as alterações no currículo das escolas e a importância do inglês para o mercado de trabalho. (Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: The present research investigated the national policies regarding the study of English language and its insertion in the school curriculum, starting from the concern about the quality of the English teaching and its learning in Brazilian public schools. It was intended to understand and analyze the studies and research that discuss how public educational policies supported the study of English in Brazilian schools, to understand how the historical evolution of this discipline in the curriculum has taken place and what are the official documents that currently make official and recognize the knowledge of the English language for students in Brazil in the 21st century. To reach this purpose, a historical analysis was made of the importance of the English language in our society, the documents related to it and the changes in the curriculum, from the arrival of the Portuguese Royal family in 1808 to the present day. The research was developed through a bibliographic review of studies and researches that discuss the subject matter and documental analysis of current Brazilian documents referring to the English language in the curriculum, starting with the Constitution of 1988 and analyzing the LDB of 1996, PCNs, PNE and BNCC .
