Previous issue date: 2009 / Esta dissertação consiste num estudo acerca da relação entre literatura e história a partir da análise do nacionalismo na literatura brasileira, com ênfase no estudo do modo como essa questão se coloca em Os Sertões, de Euclides da Cunha. O ponto de partida é a análise diacrônica tanto da configuração do nacionalismo na literatura brasileira quanto das maneiras pelas quais a própria literatura foi incorporada por projetos diversos de construção da nação. Na sequência, analiso a estrutura da narrativa de Euclides, buscando compreender e evidenciar, na forma da obra, as maneiras pelas quais nela se configura o nacionalismo literário. Por fim, detenho-me na análise de três aspectos da questão nacional no âmbito da história do Brasil e que compõem o cerne da narrativa euclidiana: a questão agrária, a formação etnológica do povo brasileiro e o conflito armado. _______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This dissertation consists of a study about the relationship between literature and history in an analysis of the nationalism in brazilian literature, with emphasis on the study of how this matter appears in Os Sertões, of Euclides da Cunha. The starting point is the diachronic analysis of the configuration of nationalism in brazilian literature and the manners through which literature itself was incorporated into the many projects of building a nation. In sequence, I analyse the narrative structure in Euclides' book, seeking to understand and to find evidence, in the book's form, of the manners through which we can find literary nationalism in the text. In the end, I analyse three aspects of the national issue in the scope of Brazil's history, which are also part of the core of the euclidian narrative: the agrarian matter, the ethnological shaping of the brazilian people and the armed conflict.
