The presence of circulating antibody long after the injection of antigen, i.e. viruses, toxoids and bacterial polysaccharides, has frequently been observed. Until recently, however, antibodies produced in response to primary immunization with innocuous soluble protein antigens have been detected in the circulation for relatively short periods of time.
