The rising trend with environmental certifications creates high pressure on the demand of property owners and results in many buildings requiring to be environmentally certified at the same time, both new and existing buildings. These environmental certifications give a stamp on how good the building's environmental and energy performances are. The competition in the real estate market is increasing and prices are rising on the real estate market. Many real estate companies strive to expand their portfolio with environmentally certified buildings. It has become a tool for property owners to use for their benefit, both financially and in terms of sustainability.This study aims to contribute to a comprehensive understanding and knowledge about the competitive perspective in environmental certifications in the real estate market for existing buildings. The study is of an investigative variety and contains three interviews with people who work in the real estate market and environmental certifications.This study aims to contribute to a comprehensive understanding and the business value of environmental certifications is examined and explained from both a theoretical and real point of view. The real estate market and environmental certifications are examined with reflections from experts to give the reader a good picture of environmental certifications. This contributes to an understanding of what the points and purpose of an environmental certification is and what they contribute to a property. The responses from the people in the interview study tended to be in the same direction with similar opinions and ideas. The interviews produced desired results and thoughts about a new perspective was proposed.
