Displacement Analysis of a Geodetic Network : A case study of the Vasa warship

By measuring coordinates repeatedly in time we can detect movements of an area or an object by establishing and monitoring a geodetic network. Since it is known that the Vasa warship is suffering from decomposition, a geodetic network has been established around the ship to monitor its deformation. This is an important task for preserving and supporting the ship in its place. In this thesis, time series of coordinates are considered over 22 epochs of the ship measurements, a quadratic line is fitted to them and acceleration and velocity for each point on the ship’s hull are obtained. The x-axis is across the ship, the y-axis is along and the zaxis is the vertical one in the local coordinate system of the ship. A method is developed for monitoring displacement and its error at different parts on the ship in two successive epochs, considering the covariances between the point coordinates. The covariances influence the result of the displacement. Significant displacements, calculated with a variance-covariance matrix were compared with the displacements calculated without variance-covariance matrix. Considering the covariances gave 108 more insignificant three dimensional displacements, which means that they are in the order of random errors. The largest acceleration and velocity are found in the upper part of the ship stern in the Zcoordinates, where all points have significant acceleration and velocity. The ship bow has the second highest acceleration and velocity, while the midsection of the ship seems to be more stabile. In the X- and Y-coordinates the acceleration and velocity are smaller, in Ycoordinates almost all points have significant acceleration and velocity. In the Xcoordinates there are several points of data with insignificant acceleration and velocity, most of them located at the midsection of the vessel. The results show that the ship is moving and accelerating at various speeds on different sides of the ship, which indicates that there are parts that suffer from more crucial decomposing. The stern is the part of the vessel that has the highest velocity, acceleration and displacement. The ship is moving downwards with respect to the museum building at the same time as it tilting towards the port. The down pulling force can explain the movements downwards, the strength of the oak can also be one reason. The tilting could depend on the support structure since points in various part of the ship seems to have the same amount of movement in the direction towards the port.

NCC i Örebro har använt prefabricerade utfackningsväggar. Denna rapport undersöker, sammanställer och jämför denna produktionsmetod med platsbyggda utfackningsväggar ur ett arbetsmiljömässigt, produktionsmässigt, tidsmässigt och ekonomiskt perspektiv. Rapporten är framtagen på NCC:s begäran för att ge en indikation på vilken produktionsmetod som är mest lämplig vid kommande projekt. Intervjuer samt information är hämtad från aktuella och pågående projekt i Örebro. Kostnader och tider utgår från sammanställda fakturor och verkliga tidplaner. Arbetsmiljön har jämförts med produktionspersonalens bedömda risker i förhållande till arbetsmiljöverkets föreskrifter. Rapporten tyder på att skillnaden ekonomiskt sett mellan prefabricerade och platsbyggda utfackningsväggar inte är stor. Tidsmässigt görs stora besparingar genom att använda prefabricerade utfackningsväggar. This report aims to explore, compile and compare the method of prefabricating infill-walls with the method of building infill-walls on site. The comparison has been made through considering aspects such as work environment, time consummation, manufacturing and production costs. The report has been conducted upon request from NCC in order to provide an indication of which method of production that present the best alternative for future projects. Interviews and information from relevant and ongoing projects in the Örebro area constitutes the basis of this report. All references to costs and time are based upon actual time schemes and invoices collected from said projects. The work environment has been compared to the risk analysis made by responsible staff members on site, all in accordance with the Swedish Work Environment Authority’s (Arbetsmiljöverket) directives. As a result of the deregulation of the Swedish railway market, the differentfunctions involved during the life cycle of railway products have been spreadout over different actors. The trigger for the work presented in this thesis wasthe insight that, since function-specific knowledge of the railway in Swedenbelongs to different organizations, special efforts would be needed to achieve aholistic picture of a railway product during the conceptual design phase. However,there is a lack of methods developed for groups with participants fromdifferent organizations possessing different functional knowledge about a product.The overall aim of the research for this thesis was therefore to develop anideation method and a concept selection method specifically for groups actingin the context of the Swedish deregulated railway market, with members fromdifferent organizations with different functional knowledge. By means of actiondesign research, the methods were developed within the scope of a researchproject involving four different actors on the Swedish railway market.The project group tested Method 635, the gallery method and the SIL method.Overall, the gallery method was most popular and the SIL method leastpopular among the participants. Method 635 was found to have a considerablyhigher idea and concept generation rate than the gallery and SIL methods.The developed ideation method combines the rotational viewing of generatedideas in the group and gallery viewing with steps of verbal interaction wherethe group members take turns to present and comment on generated ideas. Theproject group regarded the developed method as the best method of all themethods which they had tried, and it outperformed the other methods with regardto the total number of generated concepts and ideas. The views of the projectgroup on the method correlated positively to the views of participants takingpart in field tests of the method.The developed concept selection method combines refined versions of theprocedures for topic clarification, goal specification, requirement specificationand concept screening developed by Pahl and Beitz with a concept scoring procedurebased on the life cycle and societal costs associated with each conceptthat fulfils the stated requirements.The most important effect of the composition of the group was found to bethe wide range of viewpoints on the topic at hand that the representative groupof different relevant actors was able to provide.

Genom förslaget löser man bristen på affärsutrymme samt parkering för Ica Sunne som vill utveckla sin verksamhet. Detta projektarbete är ett led i ”handel på lika villkor” eftersom andra butiker i centrum har parkering i närheten av sin butik. Att behålla affärsverksamheten ICA i centrala Sunne är viktigt för hela centrumverksamheten. I projektarbetet ingår forskning och intervjuer som sammanställts till en färdig arkitektritning efter verksamhetens krav och modell över en ny affärslokal med lägenheter på våning två och tre samt utformning av parkeringsplatser. Exteriören är av vikt då den skall överensstämma med befintlig byggnadsmiljö och omgivande byggnader. Målet är att på sikt försöka genomföra denna byggnation. / The project work includes project planning, structural engineering and construction. The report contains a new proposal of how to build a completely new business premises. The proposal solves the lack of commercial space and parking for Ica Sunne who wants to develop their business. This project is part of "fair trading" because other shops in the centre have parking near their stores. It is impotrant for the whole centre that ICA maintain their business operations in central Sunne. The project work includes research and interviews compiled into a final architectural drawings for the business requirements and the model of a new commercial building with apartments on the second and third floor and the design of new parking lots. The exterior is of importance since it must comply with the existing built environment. The goal is to eventually try to implement this project.

Life Cycle Analysis : a study of the climate impact of a single-family building from a life cycle perspective

Historically, most of the climate impact of a building has derived from the buildings operational phase. However, recent studies show that the climate impact of the construction phase of a building is of the same dimension as the operational phase. Current building regulations regard the energy performance of buildings, excluding any obligations of reporting the environmental impact of the building during its life cycle. In 2017, Boverket was commissioned by the Swedish government to develop a proposal for a new climate declaration of buildings based on a life cycle perspective. The application of life cycle analysis in the Swedish building and construction sector is limited, and in particular when considering single-family buildings. Thus, the aim of the thesis is to investigate the applicability of the life cycle analysis methodology to single-family buildings and compare with former studies on multi-family buildings. This is done by studying the climate impact of a single-family building through a life cycle perspective. Simulations are done in the simulation tools VIP Energy and Byggsektorns miljöberäkningsverktyg BM. The result of the study show that the climate impact of the building is equally distributed during the building’s constructional and operational phase, accounting for 50.1 % and 49.9 % relatively. The total climate impact through the life cycle of the building is 541 kg CO2-eq/m2 Atemp, which is somewhat consistent with results of previous studies on multi-family buildings. The result also shows that the material production and the energy use are the processes that contributes the most to the climate impact during the life cycle of the building. Furthermore, the result indicates that there are no significant differences in the methodology of life cycle analysis between single-family and multi-family buildings.
