Previous issue date: 2007-09-03 / This work was elaborated in the research line education, work and social movements, intending at analyzing the organization of the work in fitness centers as well as the insertion of the Physical Education teacher. It tried to understand how the transformations, which happened in the world of work in the last few decades, reached this space bringing a new configuration and new requirements to the teacher. An ethnographic research was developed in six fitness centers, with interviews carried out with fourteen gymnastics or bodybuilding teachers and seven coordinators / Dissertação elaborada na linha de pesquisa educação, trabalho e movimentos sociais. Buscou-se analisar a organização do trabalho em academias de ginástica e a inserção do professor de Educação Física. Compreendeu-se como as transformações ocorridas no mundo do trabalho nas últimas décadas trouxeram uma nova configuração e novas exigências ao professor de Educação Física que trabalha nesse local. Foi desenvolvida uma pesquisa de tipo etnográfico, em seis academias, com entrevistas realizadas com quatorze professores de ginástica ou de musculação e sete coordenadores
