Previous issue date: 2005 / Resumo: A proposta geral desta tese é analisar o funcionamento da autoria no gênero de discurso coluna de opinião assinada, usando para isso dados do jornal brasileiro Folha de São Paulo. Por se tratar a autoria de uma noção essencialmente multifacetada do ponto de vista teórico, recorremos a teorias provenientes de lugares diferentes (estudos literários, análise do discurso, lingüística de texto, teorias de gênero), fazendo, a partir delas, uma síntese que pudesse servir de ferramenta teórica para explicar as relações de mútua dependência entre autoria e gênero do discurso. Trata-se de uma investigação de cunho essencialmente qualitativo e interpretativo, para a qual desempenharam papel importante as concepções de linguagem como interação, de gênero como tipo histórico relativamente estável e de texto como atividade social gerida por autores e leitores. A autoria foi concebida como tendo um funcionamento complexo ao mesmo tempo sócio-histórica e culturalmente pré-construída, mas, também, parcialmente reconstruída a cada ato interacional de produção de sentidos. A análise indicou que a postura da autoria nas colunas de opinião assinadas da Folha de S. Paulo é representada discursivamente pelos próprios colunistas como de caráter pessoal-profissional, embora também marcada pela voz da empresa jornalística. Indicou também que o trabalho dos autores-colunistas incide diretamente sobre a relativa estabilidade do gênero, servindo tanto para construir sua estabilidade como para explorar sua plasticidade. Do ponto de vista teórico, os resultados da pesquisa sugerem que a categoria de autor, especialmente se observada na sua relação com a de leitor, pode ser muito produtiva para a descrição e análise de gêneros e, conseqüentemente, pode ser tomada como uma importante ferramenta para os processos de leitura de textos / Abstract: The general proposal of this thesis is to analyze how authorship works in the 'signed opinion column' discursive genre, basing on data from the Brazilian newspaper Folha de S. Paulo. Since authorship is an essentially multifaceted notion in terms of its theoretical aspects, we resorted to theories proceeding from different domains (literary studies, discourse analysis, text linguistics, genre theories), creating, from them, a synthesis that might consist of a theoretical tool for explaining the relations of mutual dependence between authorship and discursive genre. The nature of this investigation is essentially qualitative and interpretative. Indeed, played an important role here the conceptions of language as interaction, of genre as relatively stable historical type, and of text as social activity managed by authors and readers. It is conceived that authorship has a complex performance, both social-historically and culturally pre-built, but also partially built again in every interactive act of production of meaning. The analysis indicated that the state of authorship in the signed opinion columns of Folha de S. Paulo is discursively represented by the columnists themselves as having a personal and professional feature, although it is also marked by the voice of the journalistic company. It indicated also that the work of the columnists-authors intervenes directly in the relative stability of the genre, so as to render both the construction of its stability and the exploring of its plasticity. From the theoretical point of view, the results of the research suggest that the category of author, basically if observed in its relation with the category of reader, may be very productive for the description and analysis of genres, and, consequently, should be taken as a relevant tool for the processes text reading / Doutorado / Doutor em Linguística
