Previous issue date: 2017-12-11 / Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie / The present work sought to understand the potential of art education in youth and adult education (EJA), with the aim of investigating: How to make aesthetic and cultural experience meaningful in youth and adult education? Its objectives were: to investigate the potential of art teaching in the EJA; to research art teaching methodologies in view of the student profile of the EJA; to investigate cultural mediation as a propulsive action of encounters with art and culture for students and to discuss the formation of the teachers of the initial grades as agents of culture. For this purpose an Art Intervention Project was developed in a second year room of Elementary School I of a school of youths and adults from the central region of the city of São Paulo, with the purpose of promoting reflection on how art education has been and how it can be improved. During the project, there was the opportunity to visit with some classes the 32nd Biennial of Art of São Paulo, which generated proposals to broaden the students' art conception and offer an interdisciplinary dimension covering subjects such as body, identity, perception of itself, as well as questions that are present in contemporary times and which are relevant in the education of young people and adults. As a result, it can be said that the Intervention Project made the learning of art teaching meaningful and enjoyable for the students, as they became interested, appreciated and more involved with the discipline, broadening students’ understanding of art. / O presente trabalho buscou compreender as potencialidades do ensino da arte na Educação de Jovens e Adultos (EJA), com o intuito de investigar: Como tornar significativa a experiência estética e cultural na Educação de Jovens e Adultos? Teve como objetivos: investigar as potencialidades do ensino de arte na EJA; pesquisar metodologias de ensino de arte tendo em vista o perfil do aluno da EJA; investigar a mediação cultural como ação propulsora de encontros com a arte e a cultura para alunos e discutir a formação dos professores das séries iniciais como agentes formadores de cultura. Para isso foi desenvolvido um Projeto de Intervenção de arte em uma sala de segundo ano do Ensino Fundamental I de uma escola de jovens e adultos da região central da cidade de São Paulo com a finalidade de promover a reflexão sobre como o ensino de arte tem sido realizado e como o mesmo pode ser aprimorado. Durante a realização do projeto, houve a oportunidade de visitar com algumas turmas a 32ª Bienal de Arte de São Paulo que geraram proposições com a finalidade de ampliar a concepção de arte dos alunos e oferecer uma dimensão interdisciplinar abrangendo temas como o corpo, identidade, percepção de si, além de questões que se encontram presentes na contemporaneidade e que são relevantes na educação de jovens e adultos. Como resultado, pode-se dizer que o Projeto de Intervenção tornou o aprendizado do ensino de arte significativo e prazeroso para os alunos, pois os mesmos passaram a se interessar, apreciar e se envolverem mais com a disciplina, ampliando o entendimento dos educandos sobre arte.
