Electrical vehicles and photovoltaics sets new demands on the power grid as itincreases the need of power output. According to the increased need of power, anddue to an outdated power grid, reinvestments are made today. The dimensioning ofthe grid is done using old methods and there is a risk that the grid is oversized if newtechnique takes place in the future. This thesis aims to analyze the need of transmission capacity in two differentscenarios. One where lots of capacity is needed as no new technique is introducedand one where less capacity is needed due to new smart technique. Analyzing this isimportant as oversizing the power grid means that someone must pay for a grid notbeing used. The results show that the difference in need of capacity between the two scenarios isa factor between two and five, depending on the type of customer living in the area. The result should be an eye opener rather than a directly applicable method. Whattype of technique that will decrease the need of transmission capacity remains to beseen but thinking about new methods for dimensioning the power grid is importantalready today.
