I ett samhället byggt på teknologi och på premisserna att nästan allt går att göra på internet, är det lätt att glömma att inte alla kan använda digitala tjänster på samma villkor. Det pratas mycket om digital delaktighet, men trots det finns det stora brister hos många webbplatser idag vilket gör att de inte är helt tillgängliga för alla människor. För personer med synnedsättningar är det av yttersta vikt att webbplatser är utvecklade på ett sätt som gör det möjligt att använda digitala hjälpmedel så som skärmläsare, utan hinder. För att en webbplats ska anses vara tillgänglig måste alla delar vara designade på ett sätt som gör att de går att uppfatta av alla personer med låg synförmåga. Detta inkluderar att ha höga kontrastförhållanden, att syntolka videor, alternativet att förstora text, etc. Bibliotekstjänster är bara en av alla de tjänster som i stor utsträckning finns tillgängliga online, däribland universitetsbibliotek. Detta gör det möjligt för studenter och forskare att ha tillgång till kataloger och annan information direkt på bibliotekens webbplatser, vilket – om det är tillgängligt – gynnar deras utbildningar och karriärer. Syftet med denna uppsats är att ta reda på hur tillgängliga svenska högskole- och universitetsbiblioteks webbplatser är för personer med synnedsättningar. Genom att använda ett online-verktyg särskilt framtaget för att utvärdera tillgängligheten på webbplatser, samt genom att manuellt granska delar av webbplatserna, utvärderades trettio webbplatser. Resultatet visar att webbplatserna inte är helt kompatibla med digitala hjälpmedel, främst skärmläsare. Studien visar även att videor inte alltid är syntolkade i den utsträckning som krävs för att de ska kunna anses vara fullt tillgängliga. Vidare bekräftar resultatet av studien tidigare forskning inom området, som fastställer att många biblioteks webbplatser inte är helt tillgängliga. / In a society largely built on technology and the premise that almost everything can be done on the internet, it is easy to forget that not everyone can use digital services on equal terms. There is a lot of talk about digital participation, however, a large majority of websites are lacking in that area and are not fully accessible to all people. For visually impaired people it is of great importance that websites are developed in a manner that allows for assistive technology such as screen readers to be used seamlessly and without obstacles. For a website to be accessible, all parts need to be designed in a way that makes them perceptible to anyone with low vision, including high contrast ratios, audio-interpreted videos and the option to enlarge the size of any text presented on the site. Library services are but one of many that are now available online, including university libraries. This enables students and researchers to have full access to catalogues and other information directly from the libraries’ websites, which – if accessible – greatly facilitates their education or research career. The purpose of this paper is to find out how accessible Swedish university libraries’ websites are to visually impaired people. By using an online evaluation tool, and by manually checking parts of the websites, we conducted an evaluation of thirty websites. Our results show that the websites are not fully compatible with assistive technology, mainly screen readers. Our study also shows that videos are not audio-interpreted, at least not to the extent that would be needed for them to be considered fully accessible. The results of our study further validates earlier research that has been done on the subject, that determine that a lot of library websites are not completely accessible, meaning that there is much work to be done before these websites can be considered accessible to all.
