Previous issue date: 2008 / Esta dissertação propõe uma reflexão acerca dos critérios que nortearam as
diversas classificações sintáticas dos verbos nocionais encontradas nos dicionários de
língua portuguesa. A Gramática de Valências, que toma o verbo como centro
estruturador da oração e concentra sua atenção em dois focos de análise (a sintaxe e a
semântica), fornece o aparato teórico necessário ao estudo, principalmente no que tange
aos pressupostos relacionados ao aspecto sintático. Da comparação das grades
regenciais fornecidas pelos dicionários, percebe-se a diversidade de nomenclaturas e
critérios utilizados pelos autores. Muitos deles, talvez influenciados pela Nomenclatura
Gramatical Brasileira, diferenciam os complementos verbais dos adjuntos adverbiais,
por exemplo, com base exclusivamente na função categorial desses termos (substantiva
ou adverbial), sem levar em conta que existem constituintes do núcleo frasal com
função categorial adverbial, bem como existem termos extranucleares com função
categorial substantiva. Para diferenciar complementos e adjuntos, sugere-se a aplicação
do teste da reformulação por um pro-verbo coordenado. Por outro lado, para diferenciar
os diversos tipos de complementos verbais, devem-se tomar como critérios-base a
função categorial do sintagma selecionado pelo verbo e a (im)possibilidade de
substituição por pronome oblíquo correspondente. Uma vez definidos os tipos de
complementos verbais existentes em língua portuguesa, é possível, então, montar uma
grade classificatória para predicados nocionais, levando-se em conta que, porquanto a
estrutura sintática de cada verbo pode variar consideravelmente de uma língua para
outra, ou mesmo dentro de uma mesma língua, a classificação deve refletir a forma
como as orações podem ser efetivamente construídas no idioma. Palavras-chave:
Regência. Verbos nocionais. Classificação, Dicionários. _____________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This dissertation suggests a reflection about the criteria which guided the several
syntax classifications of the notional verbs found in the Portuguese language
dictionaries. The Valency Grammar, which has the verb as the main structure of the
clause and focus its attention on two different analysis (syntax and semantics), supplies
the necessary theoretical apparatus for the study, specially those regarding the syntax
aspect. From the comparison of the verb structure patterns supplied by the dictionaries,
a variety of nomenclatures and criterias which are used by the authors can be noticed.
Many of them, maybe influenced by the Brazilian Grammar Nomenclature, differ the
verbal complement from the circumstantial complement, for instance, mainly based on
the categorical function of those terms (nouns or adverbs), needless to say that there are
parts of the clause with adverbial categorical function, as it exists extranuclear terms
having a noun categorical function. To differ complements and adjuncts, the aplication
of a reformulation by a coordinated pro-verb test is advisable. On the other hand, to
differ the several kinds of verbal complements, the categorical function of the phrase
selected by the verb and the (im)possibility of its substitution by the correspondent
pronoun should be taken as basic criteria. Once the kinds of verbal complements that
exist in the Portuguese language are defined, then, it is possible to set a classifying grid
for the nocional verbs, taking into consideration that the syntax structure of each verb
can vary considerably from one language to the other, or even within the same
language, the classification should reflect the way the clauses can be effectively built in
