Verbos nocionais. Classificação, Dicionários. _____________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This dissertation suggests a reflection about the criteria which guided the several syntax classifications of the notional verbs found in the Portuguese language dictionaries. The Valency Grammar, which has the verb as the main structure of the clause and focus its attention on two different analysis (syntax and semantics), supplies the necessary theoretical apparatus for the study, specially those regarding the syntax aspect. From the comparison of the verb structure patterns supplied by the dictionaries, a variety of nomenclatures and criterias which are used by the authors can be noticed. Many of them, maybe influenced by the Brazilian Grammar Nomenclature, differ the verbal complement from the circumstantial complement, for instance, mainly based on the categorical function of those terms (nouns or adverbs), needless to say that there are parts of the clause with adverbial categorical function, as it exists extranuclear terms having a noun categorical function. To differ complements and adjuncts, the aplication of a reformulation by a coordinated pro-verb test is advisable. On the other hand, to differ the several kinds of verbal complements, the categorical function of the phrase selected by the verb and the (im)possibility of its substitution by the correspondent pronoun should be taken as basic criteria. Once the kinds of verbal complements that exist in the Portuguese language are defined, then, it is possible to set a classifying grid for the nocional verbs, taking into consideration that the syntax structure of each verb can vary considerably from one language to the other, or even within the same language, the classification should reflect the way the clauses can be effectively built in the language. _________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / The content “verbal regency” has been systematically worked in classroom as a simple repetition of rules. To convince students to study regency, teacher instructs them to memorize an endless list of verbs, arguing that it is necessary for success in contests and vestibular. Regency becomes, then, a synonymous of memorization, since, apart from contests and university entrance exams, it seems to have no other purpose. Thus, it is consolidated a chasm between school theory and student practice, because the first does not bring language skills that are useful to the second. This dogmatic teaching separates the lessons of verbal regency of its main goal: to be one more contribution leading to a "more secure and comfortable performance on the activity of linguistic interaction" (NEVES, 2010). To change this frame, we must extrapolate the boundaries of traditional/ formal syntactic analysis and insert to discussions of regency semantic and pragmatic aspects. Luft (2008) has argued that semantics is at the center of relationship verb-complement and therefore cannot be disregarded in this discussion. This work proposes then discuss the verbal regency under the American typological-funcionalism (GIVÓN (1984), HOPPER AND THOMPSON (1980), NEVES (2010), CUNHA (2009), among others) and cognitive semantics view (LAKOFF & JOHNSON (1987), OLIVEIRA (2001), CANÇADO (2008), among others), which study the language as a tool for communication and social interaction, pragmatically motivated and constituted. Studying verbal regency from these perspectives involves investigating the way in which speaker organizes the relationship between arguments that complete the verb and how this relationship reflects his world vision and his communicative intent. The first objective of this study is to understand the semantic relationship between said problematic verbs by some verbs traditional studies and the terms governed by them, especially regarding the absence/presence of certain prepositions. The second objective is to demonstrate that the work of verbal regency in classroom, under a functional-cognitive perspective, makes students think that the grammatical relations of language as something motivated, and not just as a simple memorization. We also advocate that the functional-cognitive approach in the classroom brings many contributions to education, among them, a reflection on the relationship between language knowledge/world‟s knowledge, which is directly linked to verbal regency. For this reason, we use the classroom as a support for this research.

Preposições introdutoras de orações infinitivas

Machado, Daniel de Brito 18 July 2013 (has links)

_______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This dissertation investigates the semantic and the syntactic properties of prepositions introducing infinitival clauses, as opposed to contexts of noun complementation. Previous studies have shown that infinitival complementation is more open to preposition variation than the nominal one. The study thus aims to find out the reason for this disparity, trying to relate it to the hypothesis concerning the formal properties of prepositions in these contexts. Adopting the generative framework, we take into consideration the well-known distinction between lexical and grammatical/functional prepositions, as well as the hypothesis that grammatical/ functional prepositions are (abstract) Case markers. Under this assumption, it is expected that the prepositions display a uniform behavior, which is not confirmed. In the discussion we investigate the categorial properties of the infinitive, which is traditionally analyzed as a nominal form of the verb. Assuming a criterion based on the presence of the subject position in the infinitive projection, we arrive at the conclusion that the infinitive is a verbal category, which excludes that the infinitive clause is assigned Case by the preposition. The dissertation further takes into consideration the syntax of the prepositions in languages such as English, Spanish and French, showing similarities that prove to be relevant for the present analysis.

_________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / In Brazil there are many deaf .people that had not learned neither portuguese nor sign language. These people develop a whole set of gestures that are shared with the family with whom they communicate. Although these gestures accomplish their basic needs, they are insufficient to organize language functions regarding social interaction and cognitive development. Search for schooling in adult life and contact with language allow them to develop new forms of dealing with simbolic reality, where subjects are challenged to reach linguistic competencies through cultural tools which give new meaning to the world and to themselves. Language acquisition occurring in adult life is singular since envolves simultaneous acquisition of two languages in different modalities (writing and visual-spatial) and makes a shift in the subject's life, from being living as an outsider of cultural practices of society to a learner of new linguistic developmental process, including language acquisition, which should have been initialized on early childhood. This process entangles diverse linguistic resources providing special interest in the investigation of how it occurs in this peculiar phase of life. Understanding development as a process nourished by social conditions and handicap as a condition that triggers new forms of development, this research analyses meaning making process through dialogical and semiotic perspectives that occur when different subjects interact. It is a qualitative research that focus on verbal interactions. Thus, some episodes were selected within a set of videorecorded observations that occurred during one year, with deaf adults inserted in a special litteracy program. Although studies about acquisition of first language in adulthood are rare, this research designs different linguistic resources used by subjects investigated as well as relations established in spoken and written discourse, showing that peculiarities of deaf subjects are a result of their conditions and the posibilities of providing alternative cultural tools results in a peculiar way of development.
