Previous issue date: 2005 / The increase in maternal serum uric acid (UA) levels has been associated to the severety of hypertension and proteinuria, as well as to perinatal prognosis. This is a contemporaneous, cross-sectional and observational study that presents the association among maternal serum uric acid levels in hypertensive pregnant women, proteinuria/creatininuria (P/C) ratio in a sample, gestationaí age and birth weight. Fifty eight hypertensive pregnant women were evaluated, being divided in two groups according to the level of serum uric acid: - group 1: equal to or above 6 mg/dL; - group 2: below 6 mg/dL. It was shown that the diastolic blood pressure and the P/C ratio were significantly higher in group 1 (uric acid equal to or above 6). Cut-offs for the P/C ratios were set at 0. 3, 0. 5; 1 and 2. Considering the cut-offs at 0. 3 and 2, no statistically significant difference was shown between the two groups. Considering the cut-off at 1, the P/O ratio was significantly higher in group 1 and, for the cut-off at 2, again no statiscally significant difference was detected. In relation to gestational age and birth weight, the negative correlation with maternal serum uric acid was considered regular (r= 0. 27) with P=0. 04. Prematurity and low birth weight showed no statiscally significant difference between the two groups (P=0. 27 and P=0. 78, respectively). We concluded that maternal serum uric acid determination provides useful information that should be associated to other clinical and laboratory data in the decision processes of obstetric practice. / O aumento das taxas de ácido úrico sérico materno (AU) tem sido associado com a gravidade da hipertensão, proteinúria e prognóstico perinatal. O objetivo deste estudo é estudar o ácido úrico sérico materno em pacientes com gestação complicada por hipertensão arterial sistêmica. Este é um estudo observacional, transversal, contemporâneo, que apresenta a associação entre níveis de ácido úrico sérico em gestantes hipertensas, índice de proteinúria/creatininúria (P/C) em amostra, idade gestacional e peso ao nascer. Foram avaliadas 58 gestantes hipertensas, divididas em dois grupos, de acordo com a dosagem de ácido úrico sérico: - grupo 1: igual ou superior a 6 mg/dL; - grupo 2: menor do que 6 mg/dL. Observou-se que a pressão arterial diastólica e o índice P/C foram significativamente maiores no grupo 1 (ácido úrico igual ou superior a 6). Foram feitos pontos de corte para o índice P/C em 0,3; 0,5; 1 e 2. Para os pontos de corte 0,3 e 2, não ocorreu diferença estatisticamente significativa entre os dois grupos. Para o ponto de corte em 1, o índice P/C foi maior no grupo 1, e a diferença foi estatisticamente significativa e, para o ponto de corte em 0,5, a diferença estatística entre os dois grupos foi limítrofe. Quanto à idade gestacional e peso ao nascer, a correlação negativa com o ácido úrico sérico materno foi considerada regular (r= - 0,27) com P=0,04. A prematuridade e o baixo peso ao nascer não apresentaram diferença estatisticamente significativa entre dois grupos (P=0,27 e P=0,78, respectivamente). Concluímos que a dosagem de ácido úrico sérico materno oferece informações que devem ser associadas a outros exames clínicos e laboratoriais para os processos de decisão na prática obstétrica.
