Teknisk gymnasieutbildning har genomgått stora förändringar de senaste åren och nya ämnen har kopplats till teknikområdet. Har det vidare teknikperspektivet också vidgat elevrekryteringen? Manliga elever på två skilda teknikinriktningar, ingenjör och arkitektur, har genom enkäter och intervjuer besvarat frågor som rör deras motiv, intressen och framtidsplaner. Ur ett genusperspektiv behandlas männens upplevelser kring teknik och genus.Utifrån resultatet har tre elevtyper blivit synliga: teknikern, kreatören och surfaren. Teknikern och kreatören är båda målmedvetna i sina studier och framtida yrkesval. Surfaren kan tänka sig alternativa yrkeskarriärer. De tre elevtyperna, deras intressen, motiv och framtidsplaner samt hur de gör kön speglas av klass och etnicitet. För att göra gränsöverskridande val är föräldrarna, särskilt pappan, viktig. Med ökad bredd av elevtyper finns stora möjligheter att öppna upp teknisk utbildning för den kreativa eleven och så småningom en ny ingenjörsroll. / Major changes have affected the Technical Programme of the Swedish Upper Secondary School in the past few years and new subjects have been added to the technical field. Have these changes also affected the recruitment of students? Male students of the Engineer and Architecture branches of the programme have responded to questionnaires and interviews concerning their motives, interests and future plans. The male students’ experiences of technology and gender issues in technology are discussed with gender perspectives in mind. The results have outlined three main types of students: the technologist, the creator, and the surfer. The technologist and the creator are both very purposeful in their choice of studies and career goals. The surfer is more open to alternative career choices. The three student types, their interests, motives and future plans, and their views on gender issues are influences by class and ethnicity. The parents, especially the father, are influential if the student will make boundary crossing choices. With this broad selection of student types, there are great possibilities to create a technical education for the creative student and, in the future, a new type of engineer.
