Abstrakt Häxans förändring I svensk film är en undersökning av hur häxan har använts och förändrats under 1922–2015 ur ett genusperspektiv. För att genomföra studien har fyra svenska storfilmer analyserats genom Dr. Jens Eders filmanalytiska metod samt Yvonne Hirdmans genusteori om genuskontrakt. För att skapa kontext undersöks även filmernas mottagande i svensk press för att få en vidare insyn i samtidens attityd gentemot häxor. Undersökningen visar att häxan under seklets gång gått från att övervägande porträtteras som antagonister och på så vis lyfta icke önskvärda attribut hos kvinnor, till att användas som mer nyanserade protagonister. Över tid förändras även vilken typ av genussystem som häxan i filmerna befinner sig i, från att i de tidigare filmerna vara del av ett tvåkönssystem med stark isärhållning av manligt och kvinnligt, till att senare befinna sig inom ett enkönssystem där historiskt manliga egenskaper värderas högre än kvinnliga. I filmerna där egenskaper fungerar inom ett enkönssystem ger magi häxan förutsättningar att nå högre social ställning. Föreställningar om häxor lever vidare under seklets gång i nya former där bland annat “zigenerskor” pekas ut som ett samhällsproblem i en av artiklarna. Under den senare delen av seklet sker även, i samband med den positivare framställningen av kvinnliga häxor, ett återtagande av termen häxa som identitet hos unga kvinnor i samhället. Resultatet visar hur filmerna från den senare delen av seklet, genom häxan, speglar normer av ett enkönssystem. Återgåendet till enkönssystemet inom vissa delar av samhället, som arbetsmarknaden, menar Hirdman vittnar om en genuskonflikt. Således visar denna undersökning att det inte endast är inom arbetsmarknaden som enkönssystemet återkommit, utan arketyper som häxan belyser detta system även inom svensk film. / Abstract The Change of Witches in Swedish Cinema explores how witches in film have used and been changed during 1922–2015 through a gender perspective. Throughout the study, four films have been analyzed using Dr. Jens Eder’s film analyzing method as well as Yvonne Hirdman’s gender theory regarding gender contract. Film reviews in Swedish press have been included in the study to give further context and to show attitudes towards witches in the time where the movie wasproduced. The study shows that witches have gone from being portrayed as antagonists who highlight ideas of negative female attributes to more nuanced protagonists. Over time the gender system in which the witches operate changes. Witches go from being part of a two-gender system where male and female abilities are distinctly separates, to a one gender system where male abilities are of higher value. In the films with a one gender system, the witches’ magical abilities change the conditions for their social status. Ideas of witches throughout the studied time continue in the Swedish press where, among others, “zigenerskor” (Gypsies) are pointed out as a current societal issue in one of the articles. During the latter part of the century, together with the positive development in the portrayal of witches, the term witch became a title to which young women identify with. Further, Magic is shown as a redistribution of power that loosen up the physical conditions between men and women, therefore being used as a tool to shed light on new aspects of the gender contract. The result of the study shows how the films reflect norms of a one gender system throughout the later part of the century. The re-emerge of a one gender system within certain parts of society, like the labor market, bears witness to what Hirdman calls a gender conflict. Thus, this study shows that it is not only in the labor market that the one gender system is prevalent, archetypes like the witch highlight it in Swedish films as well.
