The purpose of this study is to see how reading aloud is prioritized and practiced in preschool. The study was conducted through qualitative interviews with three preschool teachers on three different preschools. The study has given a broader insight into how preschool today use reading aloud as a tool. The study is based on Lev Vygoskij’s theories about learning from a socio-cultural perspective. Reading aloud has proved to be an extremely social activity in preschool. The result of the study shows that the preschools have a similar view on the importance of reading aloud in terms of language development and the social aspect, but they differ in how reading aloud is practiced and prioritized. The study confirms previous research by showing how reading aloud is significant, not only for the linguistic development, but also for the well-being of children.
