Previous issue date: 2012-06-27 / The object of this research is to interpret the relationship between the Press and the Power. It covers, in a wider sense, the entire Brazilian republican period (1889/2012), and in a more restricted sense, it focuses on the three initial phases: the First Republic also known as the Old Republic (1889/1930), the Getulista State (1930/1954) and the Military Regime (1964/1985). The term Press , in the present report, is the set of publications that, in their own time, constituted what the common sense designates as reference press ; whereas the word Power , describes three characters that are representatives of society in the political field during the aforementioned times: Jos? Gomes Pinheiro Machado, Get?lio Dornelles Vargas and Artur da Costa e Silva. The investigation is developed from a general analysis of the way that the publications and the politicians representative of each time related to each other. This analysis gradually particularizes itself in the light of studies on Journalism and of theoretical resources taken from other scientific fields. The method of research utilized is a combination of historic, documental and bibliographic researches with Depth Hermeneutics. This path of study takes us to the very trajectory of Brazilian Press along the Republic period, which, naturally, rests on the relationships with the representations of the political power. From this scientific immersion that expands itself from the fields of Communication and Politics into the fields of Economy, History and Sociology, considerations are made such as: journalistic organizations, newspapers and newsmen were not mere spectators of the events they chose to turn into news. They act as an element of the relations of power as they have the potential to shift these relations towards the common good or towards private interests. / A interpreta??o das rela??es da Imprensa com o Poder ? o objeto desta pesquisa, em sentido amplo abrangendo todo o per?odo republicano brasileiro (1889/2012), e em sentido restrito concentrando-se nas suas tr?s fases iniciais: Primeira Rep?blica tamb?m chamada Rep?blica Velha (1889/1930), Estado Getulista (1930/1954) e Regime Militar (1964/1985). Por Imprensa se toma, no presente trabalho, o conjunto de publica??es que, em seu tempo, se insere no que o senso comum designa como imprensa de refer?ncia ; e por Poder, tr?s personagens representativas da sociedade no campo pol?tico nas ?pocas j? referidas: Jos? Gomes Pinheiro Machado, Get?lio Dornelles Vargas e Artur da Costa e Silva. A investiga??o desenvolve-se a partir de uma an?lise geral da forma com que os jornais e as publica??es representativos de cada tempo se relacionaram, an?lise essa que gradualmente se particulariza ? luz dos estudos sobre o Jornalismo e dos recursos te?ricos tomados de outros campos cient?ficos. A combina??o entre as pesquisas hist?rica, documental e bibliogr?fica com a Hermen?utica de Profundidade constitui o m?todo aqui utilizado. Esse percurso permite avan?ar para a pr?pria trajet?ria da imprensa escrita brasileira ao longo da Rep?blica, o que, naturalmente, incide sobre as rela??es com as representa??es do poder pol?tico. Dessa imers?o cient?fica que se expande dos campos da Comunica??o e da Pol?tica para os da Economia, da Hist?ria e da Sociologia, chega-se a considera??es como: organiza??es jornal?sticas, jornais e jornalistas n?o foram meros espectadores dos acontecimentos sobre os quais selecionam os que ser?o transformados em not?cia. Atuam, assim, como um elemento pr?prio das rela??es de poder, podendo potencializ?-las tanto nas dire??es do bem comum quanto na dos interesses particulares.
