Chez un nombre important de personnes atteintes de cancer, un passage de la phase curative à la phase palliative de la maladie sera vécu. Alors qu’il est reconnu que ce processus de transition est particulièrement difficile, peu d’études ont tenté d’explorer la nature de cette expérience du point de vue des personnes qui y sont confrontées. L’objectif de ce mémoire vise ainsi à décrire l’expérience de transition vers la phase palliative à partir du point de vue de la personne atteinte de cancer avancé. Pour ce faire, des entrevues individuelles ont été réalisées auprès de 11 participants, tous usagers du Centre de jour de la Maison Michel-Sarrazin. Cette étude qualitative a permis d’identifier les éléments constitutifs de l’expérience de transition ainsi que de mettre en lumière différents éléments influençant le déroulement de celle-ci. Les connaissances découlant de cette étude seront pertinentes pour l’intervention et l’accompagnement psychosocial offerts aux personnes atteintes de cancer. / For a significant number of cancer patients, the passing from a curative phase to a palliative phase of the disease will be experienced. While it is recognized that this transition process is particularly difficult, few studies have attempted to explore the nature of this experience from the patient’s point of view. This master’s thesis aims to describe the transition experience to the palliative phase from the point of view of advanced cancer patients. In order to do so, individual interviews were conducted with 11 participants, all recruited from the Maison Michel-Sarrazin day center. This qualitative study allowed us to identify the main components of the transition experience and to highlight different elements that may influence the transition process. Knowledge generated in this study should be relevant for intervention as well as the psychosocial support offered to people living with cancer.
