Integrering av kontorsarbetsplatsen i framtidens bostäder / Integration of the office space in future homes

Since the pandemic of Covid-19 began in the spring of 2020 the Swedish Health Agency has recommended companies and organizations to let their employees work from home as much as possible. The rapid transition has developed many companies working methods and a new digital era in working life has begun. The development will probably result in many employees still working from home even after the pandemic, which requires access to a sustainable workplace.  Dwellings today are often not planned to accommodate a sustainable workplace where the surrounding factors in the home have been adapted. Therefore, the purpose of this essay was to develop a theoretical tool with qualities that defines a good home with a workplace integrated in a flexible way. The theoretical tool was then applied into a practical architectural design with focus on developing flexible floor plans where the office workplace can be integrated in a smart and flexible way. The study examines how a home can be designed with the opportunity to accommodate an office workplace with a good working environment while maintaining or enhancing housing qualities and follow the Swedish standards.  The study shows that the integration of an office workplace in dwellings is a complex issue where several aspects need to be addressed. To create a sustainable office workplace the right conditions are required for example regarding light, sound, impressions and privacy. It is not only technical aspects that have played a major role in the design, but also psychosocial aspects such as health benefits from nature and plants.
