The following study is about some of the components that influence Swedish student’s selection made to study the Spanish language and about the existing differences between women and men when it comes to attitudes and perceptions towards this language. The aim of this survey is to investigate what kind of factors influence in the selection made by Swedish students, in three different educational levels, to study the Spanish language, and to discover if any differences between the sexes are present when it comes to the selection made to study the mentioned language. The study was able to be completed through a questionnaire containing 59 questions that was given to 115 Swedish students of Spanish in three diverse educational levels in the south of Sweden and it consist of two parts, one that includes questions regarding ethnic identity and the other part that contains questions that are correlated to attitudes and perceptions towards the Spanish language. To succeed with this survey the student’s answers were essential for the reason that they were a key that was needed to achieve any results for this investigation. Further on the program Excel was used to calculate the average of the responses that were given in addition to make it possible to analyze them in this essay, and find out which factors that influence in the selection made by the students to study Spanish as well as discover if the answers differ between the sexes. The results that were obtained in this investigation reveal that there are no differences between the sexes when it comes to attitudes and perceptions towards the Spanish language, and they also demonstrate that one of the main factors that influence the students in the selection made to study Spanish are components of the Hispanic ethnic identity.
