Orientador: Márcia Regina Capelari Naxara / Banca: Fraya Frehse / Banca: Virginia Celia Camilotti / Resumo: Este trabalho consiste na análise das cartas em dialeto caipira, encontradas nos periódicos de São Paulo entre os anos de 1900 e 1926, que contêm reflexões sobre o cotidiano da capital, colocando em destaque muitas das transformações vivenciadas pelos seus habitantes. Aqueles que escreveram, ao mesmo tempo em que representaram a cidade moderna, acabaram por delinear um perfil para o habitante do interior. As imagens do caipira que foram construídas relacionam-se com as questões da identidade brasileira e dialogam com algumas produções literárias do período, especialmente as de Cornélio Pires. O estilo epistolar, a disposição dos textos em versos e a utilização de pseudônimos constituíam algumas das marcas dessa produção que, juntamente com os textos macarrônicos, sinalizavam para a inserção de uma linguagem mais coloquial na imprensa. Foi por meio de um discurso descontraído e cômico que as cartas caipiras representaram a cidade e o habitante rural, ao mesmo tempo em que fizeram parte daquela realidade enquanto prática cultural / Abstract: This work deals with the analysis of the caipira dialect, found in São Paulo‟s periodicals of the years 1900-1926, which contains glimpses of daily life in the capital, bringing forward many of the transformations experienced by their inhabitants. The ones who wrote it, while representing the modern city, ended up tracing a profile of the country person too. The caipira's images that were built are related to matters of brazilian identity, and establish a dialog with the literary productions of that period, especially the ones by Cornélio Pires. The letter like style, the text's arrangement in verses and the use of pseudonyms were some of the characteristics of this kind of production, which, along with the macaronic texts, pointed to the insertion of a more colloquial language in the press.
