O estudo desta imigração destaca-se por ser empregado nestas duas regiões logo após o fim da escravidão, e refere-se a uma imigração em substituição ao trabalho escravo, portanto, trata-se de uma entrada de trabalhadores que vem à América como forma de prestar trabalho em momento de transição entre o trabalho escravo e o trabalho livre. Sendo realizado em perspectiva comparada, é nosso objetivo evidenciar possíveis semelhanças e divergências durante esse processo. Mesmo trabalhando sob contrato, os imigrantes chineses, sendo livres, vivenciaram condições de trabalho muito próximas ao regime escravista. Cabe ao estudo também, demonstrar como as teorias raciais surgidas durante o século XIX, influenciaram as elites espanholas, cubanas e brasileiras, para a efetivação desta imigração em Cuba e uma baixa adesão a este tipo de trabalhador no Brasil / Abstract: This dissertation aims to analyze the process of Chinese immigration to Brazil and Cuba during the periods from 1840 to 1890. The study of this immigration is notable for being employed in these two regions soon after the end of slavery, and refers to an immigration in substitution for slave labor, therefore, it is an entry of workers that comes to America as a way of providing work in the moment of transition between slave labor and free labor. Being carried out in a comparative perspective, it is our objective to show possible similarities and differences during this process. Even under contract, the Chinese immigrants, being free, lived working conditions very close to the slave regime. The study also shows how the racial theories that emerged during the nineteenth century influenced the Spanish, Cuban and Brazilian elites in order to achieve this immigration in Cuba and a low adherence to this type of worker in Brazil / Mestre
