Previous issue date: 2002 / Resumo: Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a força de retenção de dois sistemas de encaixe para Overdentures em função do número de ciclos de união e separação dos componentes. Foram confeccionadas 20 amostras, divididas em 4 grupos, 5 por grupo: 1) Sistema O'ring; 2) Sistema Barra-Clip (Conexão Sistemas de Prótese); 3) Sistema O'ring; e 4) Sistema Barra-Clip (Lifecore Biomedical). As amostras imersas em saliva artificial foram submetidas ao ensaio de ciclagem mecânica em máquina servohidráulica MTS-81 O, realizando-se 5500 ciclos de inserção e remoção (0,8 Hz). Durante o ensaio, os valores da força de retenção foram monitorados em 4 registros por meio de ensaio de tração, utilizando o programa Test Work for Test Star (1 mm/min), e célula de carga de I kN: 1Q retenção inicial; 2Q- após 1500 ciclos; 3Q- após 3000 ciclos; e 4Q- após 5500 ciclos. Os dados obtidos foram submetidos à Análise de Variância e aplicado o teste de Tukey (p<0,05). Os resultados mostraram que o grupo 2 apresentou resultados superiores ao 4, sendo estatisticamente significantes (44,61 N e 18,44 N, respectivamente). O grupo 1 apresentou valores inferiores ao grupo 3, sendo estatisticamente significantes, exceto em 1500 ciclos, onde os valores não apresentaram diferença (13,91 N e 19,75 N, respectivamente). O grupo 2 apresentou valores sempre superiores ao grupo I, sendo estatisticamente significantes (44,61 N e 13,91 N). Os grupos 3 e 4 apresentaram valores semelhantes (19,75 N e 18,44 N). Desse modo, conclui-se que: os sistemas avaliados neste estudo apresentaram valores de força de retenção satisfatórios antes e após ensaio
de ciclagem mecânica, sendo os mais elevados apresentados pelo grupo 2; o ensaio simulando 5 anos de inserção e remoção da prótese não provocou diminuição nos valores da força de retenção ou fratura dos componentes / Abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate the strength of two Overdenture attachments systems according to the number of insertion and removal cycles. Twenty samples were prepared, divided in 4 groups, 5 specimens in each group as follows: 1) O'ring System and 2) Bar and Clip System (Conexão Sistemas de Prótese); 3) O'ring System and 4) Bar and Clip System (Lifecore Biomedical). The samples imersed in artificial saliva were submitted to mechanical test using a servohidraulic machine MTS-810, performing 5500 cycles of insertion and removal (0.8Hz). The retention force values were controled during the test, recording the values in 4 intervals, using the tensile test (Test Works for Test Star), with speed of Imm/min., and load cel of 1 kN: lst- initial; 2nd after 1500 cycles; 3rd- after 3000 cycles; and 4th - after 5500 cycles. Data were statistically analysed by Variance Analysis followed by Tukey's test (p<0.05). The results obtained showed that group 2 had higher values than group 4, showing significant difference (44.61 N and 18.44 N, respectivelly). Group 1 showed lower values when compared with group 3, being statistically significant, except in 1500 cycles, where there was no difference between them (13.91 N and 19.75 N, respectivelly). The values of group 2 were always higher than group 1, being differents (44.61 N and 13.91 N). Groups 3 and 4 showed similar values (19.75 N and 18.44 N). The conclusion is that: the systems evaluated in this study showed satisfactory values of retention force before and after the mechanical test, and the highest values belonged to group 2; the simulation of 5 years of insertion and removal did not cause a decrease in the values of retention or the components' fracture / Mestrado / Protese Dental / Mestre em Clínica Odontológica
