Previous issue date: 2000 / Resumo: A presente pesquisa consiste na análise das práticas e agentes que contribuem para manter a banda de música em cena no Estadode São Paulo. O método utilizado foi de levantamento interseccional com abordagens explicativas, de acordo com Ear! Babbie(1999). Diante dessa proposição, 88 regentes dentre várias categorias de banda, além de outros experts na área, foram entrevistados com o intuito de coletar dados e diagnosticar eventos que influenciaram as bandas nas últimas cinco décadas. Os seguintes fatores foram analisados: a prática do voluntariado, a atuação da instituição banda nas comunidades, as formas alternativas de aquisição financeira, a formação dos regentes, o ensino e material didático que utilizam, os encargos dos mantenedores, além do perfil da clientela. e as diferenças entre bandas civis e militares. De acordo com os resultados, concluiu-se que as bandas de estudantes são estimuladas pelos campeonatos e utilizam de astúcias para a sua sobrevivência. Verificou-se também a ausência de litertura específica e a lacuna de cursos acadêmicos que preparem o regente de banda para a realidade dos grupos estudantis. Por fim, a visão crítica do pesquisador foi apresentada através de considerações a respeito dos relacionamentos entre bandas, escolas de música, governo e comunidades / Abstract: The present research consists in an analysis of practices and agents that contribute to maintain the band of music in scene in the State of São Paulo. The method used was a cross-sectional survey with an explainable approach, according to Earl Babbie (1990). Within this proposition, eighty-eight conductors among severalband categories, besidesother recognized experts, were interviewed in order to collect data and find events that influenced the music bands in the last five decades. The following factors were analyzed: the practice of voluntary people, the action of the institution band in the communities, the alternative forms of financial acquisition, the education ofJconductors, the teaching and pedagogical materiaIs utilized, the responsibility of supporters, besides the profile of clients and the differences between civil and military bands. According to the resuIts, it was concluded that the student bands are stimulated by championships and are cunning for their survival. Also, it was verified the absence of specific literature and the omission of academic courses that prepare band conductors for the reality of student groups. Finally, a critical vision of the researcher was presented with considerations about the relationship among bands, universities, schools of music, government and communities / Mestrado / Mestre em Artes
