Integrerat växtskydd : Kartläggning av jordbrukarnas arbete och kunskap om integrerat växtskydd i kommunerna Sala och Heby

The purpose of this report was to examine if farmers in the municipalities Sala and Heby knew what integrated pest management means and to see how and if they worked after the according principles. A questionnaire survey was sent to farmers that use 50 hectares land or more. To be able to use pesticide the principles of integrated pest management need to be fulfilled. Working after the principles in integrated pest management means that they need to prevent pests, the growth needs monitoring of the problems that can occur, the pest control shall be centered round the needs and that the effects of the taken actions get a follow-up. Almost a fifth of the farmers didn’t have any knowledge about integrated pest management. A majority of the farmers worked by the principles of integrated pest management, although a few didn’t have any monitoring of their fields. A few of the farmers didn’t prevent insects and didn’t take any actions in order to favor or spare farm animals. Most of the farmers didn’t think their work had changed since before the laws of implementing integrated pest management, since they already worked in that way before. Nearly a fourth of the farmers thought that their work had change. The changes in their work included more planning and more documentation. Although almost a fifth of the farmer’s weren´t familiar with integrated pest management, most of the farmer’s hadn´t experienced a change in their work.
