Det nya bostadsområdet Annedal ligger på gångavstånd från Sundbybergs centrum och många barnfamiljer flyttar hit. Centralt i området finns en park och det är i anslutning till den som den nya skolan ligger. I parkens norra del finns en kulle med träd. Öster om denna planerar kommunen en marknadsplats. Det är i denna ”natur”- och ”stads”-sida som min skola har sitt ursprung. Lågstadiet placeras närmast naturen, klättrandes på kullen medan mellanstadiet placeras närmast staden. Skolan ökar i storlek, från mindre jordnära enplansenheter för de lägre årskurserna till ett smalt ”höghus” för de högre årskurserna. Att gå i skolan är lite som en resa i både tid och kunskap och denna förflyttelse symboliseras i byggnaden. En huvudgång löper från ena sidan till den andra och på vägen ligger de gemensamma funktionerna, som matsal och gymnastiksal, inskjutna. Gången har aktivt programmerats, med scen, läshörnor och utställningspassage, för att bli en plats där man möts och utvecklas. I klassrummen finns både rum för skolbänksundervisning och mer individanpassad undervisning i mindre grupprum. Dessa nischer är i barnens skala och har förhöjd golvnivå för att eleven och läraren ska mötas i samma ögonhöjd. / The new residential area Annedal is whithin walking distance from Sundbyberg city centre and is attracting families. A park is centrally located in the area and this is where the new elementary school (ages 6-11) will be situated. A hill with trees is located in the northern part of the park. To the east the municipality is planning a commercial area. The school is placed at the border of the ”nature” and ”city” side. The primary school is closer to nature, climbing the hill while the middle school is closer to the city side. The school size increases from small horizontal one-floor units for the younger children to a ”highrise” building for the older children. Going through the education system resembles a journey through time and knowledge and this development is symbolized in the building. A main walk leads from one side to the other and the common areas, e.g. school dining hall and gymnasium, are inserted in between. The aisle is supposed to be a place to meet and to learn, therefor it has been programmed with a stage, reading corners and an exhibition lane. In each classroom there is an area for desks and a blackboard, but there are also spaces for less strict forms of teaching. These niches are designed with children size in mind and have a raised floor level so that the pupil and teacher can meet at the same eye-level.
