Religionsundervisning och värdegrundsarbetet i kristna konfessionella skolor

The aim of this paper was to investigate how the subject of religious studies was portrayed by teachers when it comes to selection and implementation of the subject in Christian confessional schools. Also how the schools and teachers depicted how religion permeated their daily activities. Another aspect which was investigated was how ethics within the religious subject was portrayed and how the work regarding the schools ethic values was executed. The questions raised were the following; what does a teacher at a Christian school incorporate into his/her teachings of the subject, and how does the teacher incorporate other religions into the subject? How do the teachers present Christianity during the religious studies classes and other activities? How does the confessional school work with values and ethics? The teachers who were interviewed were, Henrik, Oskar and Bertil. Henrik feels the need for a Christian school to exist because it provides a sanctuary for children with a certain faith and allows them to study and be part of a school which is permeated by Christian values. Oskar says that the reason they established the school in the first place was because of the atmosphere at the time. Christian confessional schools had just been permitted and there were strong protests throughout society that Christian studies had been removed from the curriculum in 1969. Bertil believes that a Christian school was needed to meet the specific demands at the time. When it comes to results, all of the above mentioned teachers say that they mainly work with the five world religions and alternative religions. Within Christianity and ethics/morals the three teachers focus on practically the same aspects and work in similar ways. The schools resemble each other when it comes to working with values, especially regarding the topics of bullying, equal rights and their methods of working. The only teacher who differed from the others was Oskar. This was because he taught Christianity to a much greater extent that the other two. The presence of Christianity in the schools was made apparent through morning assemblies which reminded of each other regarding content and length. The schools also each had an extra lesson of Christian studies. In addition to this, Broskolan also had a school service once a week.
