På platsen där konstmuseet ska ligga finns idag ett gammalt magasin, Katalin, som har omvandlats till en välanvänd byggnad med plats för kafé, shop, restaurang och en scen för olika event. Det nya konstmuseet skapar ytterligare aktivitet på platsen och förutsättningar för Katalin att utveckla sina verksamhet. Ett flöde går genom tomten, som idag används som parkeringsplats, från tomtens södra ände från Uppsala resecentrum till det nordliga hörnet av tomten där Uppsala Konsert och Kongress ligger. Det nya konstmuseet skapar förutsättningar att förstärka detta flöde. Genom att lägga museet under mark kan platsen aktiveras och användningen öka På marknivån skapar museets taklanterninerna ett landskapi olika höjd och storlek, och skapar en fasad för museet. Lanterninerna skapar sitt- och vilomöjligheter, sällskapsytor, avskilda vrår och ett landskapatt upptäcka för de minsta. De största lanterninerna bildar trappor att sitta i och några andra bildar bänkar. En öppen yta i mitten av tomten skapar utrymme för mindre uppträdanden, samlingar och allmänt solbadande. Verksamheterna i Katalin har möjlighet att ställa uppbord och använda sig av bänkarna för uteservering. Lanterninera lämnar plats för en gång- och cykelväg som skär diagonalt över tomten och skapar ett flöde från Vaksala torg med konserthuset och resecentrum in mot stadskärnan. Entrén vrider sig mot den södra delen av tomten och en mur runt entrén skapar tydlighet. En bred trappa bjuder ner besökaren till museet. När man kommer ner i entrén ligger där en nedsänkt innergård som tar ner grönskan och kopplar landskapet ner till museet. Runt gården lägger sig olika funktioner som receptionen, kafét och shopen. Även kontoret för personalen och konstpedagogiken lägger sig runt gården och kopplar till entrén. Bakom receptionen ligger toaletterna och garderoben som leder vidare till hörsalen. Förbi receptionen börjar utställningslokalerna. En bred trappa skapar en entré och uppdelning från de publika ytorna. Utställningsrummen är upplysta med ett spritt ljus tack vare lanterninerna, som tar in det naturliga dagsljuset och sprider det med sina sluttande ytor. Det naturliga dagsljuset skapar ett föränderligt ljus i utställningslokalerna och besökaren kan upptäcka nya saker i de utställda föremålen tack vare ljuset. Ett atrium sträcker sig ner i den stora utställningssalen och skapar rymd och höjd för utställningarna och låter ljuset flöda ner i rummet. / At the site where the art museum will be is today an old warehouse, Katalin, which has been converted into awell-used building with space for acafe, shop, restaurant and astage for various events. The new art museum creates additional activity on the site and conditions for Katalin to develope their business. A flow runs through the property, which is currently used as aparking lot, the site’s southern end from UppsalaTravel Centre at the northern corner of the plot where the UppsalaConcert and Congress lies. The new Art Museum creates opportunities to enhance the flow, by adding the museum below ground, the location may be activated and the use will increase. At ground level the museum rooflights creates alandscape in different height and size, and creates the facade of the museum. The rooflights creates seating and rest facilities, places to meet, secluded nooks and alandscape to discover for the smallest. The largest lanterns forming stairs to sit in and afew other forms benches. An open space in the middle of the plot creates space for smaller performances, collections, and general sunbathing. The businesses in Katalin has the option to set up tables and use the benches for outdoor seating. Lanternineraleaves room for apedestrian and bicycle path that cuts diagonally across the plot and creates aflow from VaksalaSquare with the concert hall to the travel center towards the city center. The entrance faces the southern part of the site and awall around the entrance creates clarity and awide staircase invites the visitor to the museum. When the visitors comes down to the entrance they are met by asunken courtyard that brings down the greenery and connects the parkdown to the museum. Around courtyard settles various features like reception area, café and shop. Even the office and art pedagogy settles around the courtyard and connects to the entrance. Behind the reception is toilets and wardrobe located which leads on to the auditorium. Past the reception begins the exhibition. A wide staircase creates an entrance and separation from the public areas. The exhibition rooms are illuminated with anatural light thanks to the rooflights, which brings in natural light and spreads it with their sloping surfaces. The natural daylight creates achanging light in the exhibition rooms and the visitor can discover new things in the exhibits on show thanks to the changing lights. An atrium extending into the main exhibition hall, creating space and height for exhibits and lets light flood into the room.
