Previous issue date: 2007-06-26 / O tema central do nosso trabalho é o ensino das expressões idiomáticas. Inicialmente nos apoiamos nas teorias e estudos a respeito do processo de ensino/aprendizagem do vocabulário, e, posteriormente, na teoria fraseológica. Os estudos sobre o vocabulário forneceram o embasamento teórico para a seleção e elaboração de atividades para o ensino das expressões idiomáticas. A teoria fraseológica permitiu distinguir as expressões idiomáticas de outras unidades fraseológicas. Seguindo uma abordagem qualitativa, o trabalho foi realizado no Uruguai, junto a um grupo de estudantes de nível avançado de português como língua estrangeira. Além das aulas, os estudantes participaram da seleção de expressões idiomáticas que deram origem a um material de consulta: o Nosso novíssimo dicionário de expressões idiomáticas. A organização desse material serviu como um dos procedimentos utilizados para o ensino das expressões idiomáticas. Além disso, pode ser compartilhado com a comunidade de estudantes e professores. Para a organização do inventário, foi necessário realizar uma análise da sua estrutura, o que feito com base no trabalho de Ortíz Alvarez (2000), o qual mostra que as expressões idiomáticas podem corresponder na outra língua a uma idêntica, semelhante, totalmente diferente ou, em outros casos, não é possível encontrar equivalente. Apresentamos também as atividades metodológicas que selecionamos e elaboramos para o ensino das expressões idiomáticas. A ausência de obras bilíngües que privilegiem este tema, a escassa e desorganizada presença dessas unidades nos materiais didáticos para o ensino de português para estrangeiros, bem como o interesse que desperta nos aprendizes parecem-nos razões suficientes para justificar este trabalho. Os resultados mostraram que podemos, com a ajuda das expressões idiomáticas, propiciar atividades significativas em que os alunos apresentam situações/problemas sobre as/os quais serão motivados a refletir na busca de soluções. No mesmo sentido, pudemos constatar que contribuir na elaboração do inventário com a busca de expressões idiomáticas a serem incluídas em contextos, tanto em espanhol quanto em português, tornou-os mais sensíveis a perceber essas unidades e, conseqüentemente, a continuar a aprender, independentemente da sala de aula. ________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / The main topic of this work is the teaching of the idiomatic expressions. First, it is based on the theories and studies in relation to the teaching/learning process of vocabulary. Later, it is based upon the theory of phraseology. Those studies of vocabulary provide us theoretic foundation for the selection and the elaboration of activities of the teaching of the idiomatic expressions, while the phraseological theory permits us to distinguish those idiomatic expressions from other phraseological units. Following a qualitative approach, the research was realized in Uruguay, applying to a group of students in the advance level of the Portuguese as a foreign language. Even outside of the class, those students took part in the selection of idiomatic expressions based on a reference called: Nosso novissimo dicionário de expressões idiomáticas (Our new dictionary of idioms). The organization of the dictionary was used to guide us as one of the procedures for the teaching of idioms. It could be shared by both teachers and students. For a collection of phraseological units, it was necessary to realize a structural analysis, which is the work done by Ortíz Alvarez (2000), showing that those idiomatic expressions could correspond to identical, similar or totally different expressions in the other language or other cases. It is showed that methodological process in activities, in which we select and elaborate the collection for teaching of idioms. The absence of bilingual references that may have treated the topic and a lack of organization of those units appeared in the Portuguese text books for foreign language speakers as well as the interests provoked among the learners are good reasons to justify the commitment of this present study. The result of the research indicates that we can provide significant activities with the use of the phraseological expressions, in which the learners can show situations/problems by which they will be motivated to reflect for pursuit of solutions. In the same sense, we could say that to contribute to the elaboration of the collection with the search of those expressions to be included in the contexts both in the Spanish and the Portuguese, it makes the learners more sensitive to perceive those units and, consequently, encourage them to learn the foreign language outside of the class.
