Bakgrund: Den palliativa vården syftar till att lindra lidande och främja livskvalitet hos patienten, samt stötta närstående. Närstående kan vara ett stort stöd för patienten i palliativ vård men situationen kan också vara en utmaning och de kan behöva hjälp att hantera sin situation. Det är sjuksköterskans roll att hjälpa och stötta även närstående i den palliativa vården.Syfte: Syftet med litteraturstudien var att belysa närståendes upplevelser av palliativ vård. Efterföljande frågeställningar var: På vilket sätt upplever närstående att de bäst får hjälp och stöd av sjuksköterskan? Vad upplever närstående som mindre bra i kontakten med sjuksköterskan?Metod: En litteraturstudie med tio kvalitativa studier genomfördes och resultatet sammanställdes genom en innehållsanalys. Resultat: Närståendes upplevelser av palliativ vård sammanställdes till fyra teman: En omvälvande kris; Existentiella aspekter på död, värdighet och avsked; Fokusskifte från kurativ behandling till lindrande omvårdnad; Organisatoriska faktorer av betydelse.Konklusion: Att vara närstående till en patient som vårdas palliativt kan leda till en kris, och det kan vara svårt för dem att ta in vad vårdtiden innebär. Detta skapar behov hos närstående som sjuksköterskan behöver beakta. Omvårdnaden bör vara personcentrerad och holistisk. Det är viktigt att närstående hålls välinformerade och ges möjlighet att vara hos patienten samt vara delaktiga i omvårdnaden, vilket kan hjälpa dem att känna mening med vårdtiden. Likaså kan det vara viktigt för närstående att få ett fint avsked med patienten, samt ett avslut med sjuksköterskorna efter patientens död. / Immediate families’ experiences of palliative care. A literature review.Background: Palliative care aims to relieve suffering and promote quality of life for the patient, and support immediate family. Immediate family can be a great support for the patient in palliative care but the situation can also be challenging and they may need help in dealing with their situation. It is the nurse’s role to also support the immediate family in the palliative care.Aim: The aim of this literature review was to illuminate immediate families’ experiences of palliative care. Subsequent research questions were: How do immediate family experience help and support from the nurse in the best way? What do immediate family experience as less good in the contact with the nurse?Method: A literature review with ten qualitative studies was conducted and the result was compiled through a content analysis. Result: Immediate families’ experiences of palliative care were compiled into four themes: An overthrown crisis; Existential aspects of death, dignity and farewell; Focus shift from curative care to relieving nursing care; Organizational factors of meaning.Conclusion: Being immediate family to a patient in palliative care can lead to a crisis, and it can be difficult for them to take in what the care means. This creates needs of immediate family that the nurse needs to take into account. The nursing care should be person-centered and holistic. It is important that immediate family are well-informed and gets the opportunity to be with the patient and be involved in the nursing care, which can help them to feel a sense of meaning with the care. It can also be important for immediate family to get a tender farewell with the patient, and closure with the nurses after the patient’s death.
