This study is about how literature can be used in the school to work with an understanding of other people's living conditions and experiences, as well as the development of their own self-insight, which are pillars of the school's value foundation. In this particular study, the focus is on what didactic potential is precisely the autobiographical genre in that work. The investigation will be done by doing an analysis on the book Educated of Tara Westover. The analysis will then be discussed in relation to parts of the school's governing documents. The steering documents I have chosen to focus on in this study are “The curriculum for the upper secondary school” and “The subject plan for the subject Swedish”. The study is based on selected key scenes in the book which are then linked to the contents of the control documents in the discussion sections.
