Vakuumisolering – Ekonomiskt försvarbart för småhus?

The number of people in the world and the urbanization increases. This leads to a bigger need of space for the built environment, space that soon doesn’t exist. A large portion of humanity’s energy disposal is used for heating of buildings. This energy consumption is often a waste due to the existing technique and materials which could reduce the consumption quite a lot. With this background, this report has been made in purpose to investigate the possibilities of saving ground space and energy by using, one on the markets relatively new isolation material, vacuum insulation, when building single-family houses. In the study where the possibility of ground saving is investigated the result shows that vacuum insulation is a profitably alternative, for the current house, when the price for the ground excesses 20653 kr/m 2. This price, and even higher, is not unusual in bigger cities. One interesting vacuum insulation application is in project where single-family homes are built upon existing buildings in the cities. In these cases every spared square meter is of high importance. This is a concept becoming more and more common. In the study where the possibility of energy saving is investigated the result shows that 571 kWh/year or 466 kr/year can be saved for the current house. This annual saving is although not enough to make vacuum insulation interesting from an economical view. The higher investment is too high in comparison to the annual saving with the interest rate in consideration. The study although shows that the possibility of saving energy exist and can be done relatively easy. The technic and material do exist. To make vacuum insulation a more conventional and more used material the technical faults must be solved. This should then lead to a bigger demand and also a lower price. Vacuum insulation could then be an economical defensible insulation alternative, which saves both energy and ground area, when used in single-family houses.
