part of a broader field of issues surrounding the concepts of nature and environmental
regulations, as well as the sense of environmental crisis and its relation to the knowledge
paradigms. From this understanding, we discuss the role of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in development of environmental education with a focus on NGO Ecology and Action (ECOA) and its actions in Mato Grosso do Sul. Based on archival work and conducting interviews with members and founders of the ECOA tried to analyze the
objectives, main features and issues surrounding the actions taken by the ECOA with respect to Environmental Education. In this sense, identify, among the projects developed by the ECOA, the Child of Waters Project that seeks, through Environmental Education critical thinking and tools to provide better working conditions for the riparian communities served and thus offer a better quality of life for these families. Based on the analysis of the actions developed by the ECOA and, especially, in the Project Child Waters, we understand that this NGO performs work that Environmental Education is not limited to behavioral and individual actions. Environmental perspective is the basis of their actions to the extent that their environmental education projects assume that man is not external to nature, but they interact and form a single medium. Therefore, a vision of social, environmental and environmental education that sees the environment as a whole issue, not separating it and fragmenting it. / Neste trabalho, partimos do entendimento de que a reflexão em torno da Educação Ambiental insere-se num campo mais amplo de questões que envolvem as concepções de natureza e meio ambiente vigentes, bem como os sentidos da crise ambiental e sua relação com os paradigmas do conhecimento. A partir deste entendimento, procuramos discutir o papel das Organizações Não-Governamentais (ONGs) no desenvolvimento da Educação Ambiental tendo como foco a ONG Ecologia e Ação (ECOA) e suas ações em Mato Grosso do Sul. Com base em levantamento documental e realização de entrevistas com membros e fundadores da ECOA procuramos analisar os objetivos, características e principais questões que envolvem
as ações desenvolvidas pela ECOA no que diz respeito à Educação Ambiental. Neste sentido, identificamos, dentre os projetos desenvolvidos pela ECOA, o Projeto Criança das Águas que busca, através de uma Educação Ambiental crítica, proporcionar reflexões e ferramentas visando melhores condições de trabalho para os ribeirinhos das comunidades atendidas e assim oferecer uma melhor qualidade de vida para essas famílias. Com base na análise das ações desenvolvidas pela ECOA e, principalmente, no Projeto Criança das Águas, entendemos que essa ONG realiza um trabalho de Educação Ambiental que não se limita a
ações comportamentalistas e individuais. A perspectiva socioambiental é base de suas ações na medida em que seus projetos de Educação Ambiental partem do princípio de que o homem não é externo à natureza, mas que interagem e formam um só meio. Portanto, uma visão socioambiental e de Educação Ambiental que enxerga o meio ambiente como um todo e não o fragmentando e separando-o.
