The purpose of this study was to shed light on how employees at Scania AB are motivated to continue working in the manufacturing industry and to find out what motivation factors the employees at Scania have to continue working in the manufacturing industry. This is because more and more employees in the manufacturing industry have decreased. The authors of this study use of Scania AB as a case of investigating which motivational factors employees have in order to continue working in the manufacturing industry. To answer the question for this study, a qualitative research strategy was chosen through ten semi-structured interviews. The theoretical frame of reference chosen for the study was Vroom's expectation theory, which consists of three connection concepts, Expectation, Instrumentality and Valence. These three connection concepts should be multiplied with each other to create motivation among employees. Deci and Ryan’s theory of inner and outer motivation was chosen to study motivation among employees. The internal motivation is based on the employee's individual driven by challenges and their own will to develop, external motivation is described as external factors to create motivation among employees in the form of rewards, security and bonuses. The conclusion drawn shows that the employees at Scania AB are motivated to continue working in the manufacturing industry as they are expected to be promoted to a higher post. The employees are also motivated by internal and external motivation factors in the form of bonuses and security.
