O tema dessa investigação trata do capital social como prática de incentivo ao desenvolvimento do turismo. Dentro desta perspectiva são consideradas para o estudo variáveis associadas à oferta e demanda turística e aos impactos na comunidade-anfitriã. O objetivo principal é contribuir com reflexões que aproximem o fenômeno do turismo das práticas de capital social. Foi selecionado como objeto de estudo o Litoral Norte do Rio Grande do Sul, tendo como recorte o Distrito de Morro Azul, município de Três Cachoeiras. O estudo caracteriza-se pelo caráter exploratório do tema em questão, utilizandose como métodos de coleta de dados o levantamento de arquivo e de campo. Dentro deste último foi realizada observação participante, aplicação de questionários nos visitantes e entrevistas com a comunidade residente, além de levantamento fotográfico dos atrativos turísticos. Os resultados revelam que o capital social parece consolidado na localidade pesquisada,indicando que há uma grande vocação da comunidade-anfitriã para o desenvolvimento do turismo com vistas à sustentabilidade. Tais resultados evidenciam a importância da participação da população local no processo decisório o que conseqüentemente favorece o êxito das atividades relacionadas ao turismo. / The theme of this investigation treats of the social capital as incentivation practical to the tourism growing. Into this perspective, variables associated to the offering and touristic demand and to the impacts in the hostcommunity are considered to the study. The main objective is to contribute with reflections that approach the tourism phenomenon to the social capital practicals. It was selected as object of study the North Seaside of Rio Grande do Sul, it having like delimitation the District of Morro Azul, Municipality of Três Cachoeiras. The study characterize itself by the exploratory character of the matter in question, it using like method of data collection, the research of file and field research. Into this last one, it was fulfilled participant observation, questionnaire application to the visitors and interviews with the resident community, beside the photographic research of the touristic atractives. The results reveal that de social capital seems consolidated in the searched locality, it indicating that there is a great vocation in the host community to the tourism development with the objective to get sustentability. These results evidence the importance of the local people's participation in the decisory process,which consequently it favours the outcome of the activities relationed to the tourism.
