Hej! Har ni någon plats på biblioteket där man kan läsa i lugn och ro? : En kvalitativ innehållsanalys av svenska biblioteksplaner där biblioteksverksamheten ställs i relation till neuropsykiatriska funktionsnedsättningar.

This is an empirical study of library activities in relation to a growing challengeconcerning neuropsychiatric disabilities through the content in Swedish libraryplans. The method used is a qualitative content analysis. The research question andpurpose are to answer questions regarding neuropsychiatric disabilities in a libraryan information science context and to make visible problems and possibilities inlibrary plan content that can contribute to new knowledge, competence, resources, and research that can improve library activities in accordance with neuropsychiatricdisabilities. The social phenomenon is examined from a critical perspective andbased on the Swedish Library Act § 4 and § 6 and the public library model The FourSpaces - a model for a contemporary public library. Swedish library plans are usedas framework for library activities and are based on the Swedish Library Act SFSnr: 2013: 801. I chose to analyse existing data in library plans so that I could spendmore time on analysing a complex relationship between libraries, society, andneuropsychiatric disabilities. By applying proven theories and methods to officialdata and existing research, I intend to create honest and objective results based on agood research practice and sound ethics. The study has shown that the analysedcontent in library plans does not include the term neuropsychiatric disabilities andthat there is a lack of written communication that specifically illuminatesneuropsychiatric disabilities with the intent to tackle a growing problem concerningneuropsychiatric disabilities through library activities. The results have also shownthat there is content that can be indirectly related to neuropsychiatric disabilities thatcan promote access and participation for library users with the disabilities that oftenaccompany neuropsychiatric disabilities. The lack of content that sufficientlyilluminates and accounts for targeted efforts based on neuropsychiatric disabilitiescan lead to library activities that are not sufficiently adapted to tackle a growingneuropsychiatric problem in society and therefore fail to meet Swedish Library Act§ 4 and § 6. This study illuminates how the content in library plans relate toneuropsychiatric disabilities with the aim to enable access to libraries andinformation for all users, including those with neuropsychiatric disabilities.
