Omhändertagandet av patienter med sepsis : Sjuksköterskors erfarenheter

Background: Sepsis is a condition with high morbidity and mortality that stands for suffering among affected individuals as well as high societal costs. Sepsis can present with various signs and symptoms. Nurses play an important role in the early identification and prompt management of patients with sepsis. In order for nurses to administer quality care towards patients it is required that nurses have acquired both scientific knowledge and proven experience, along with continuing education. Aim: The aim is to illustrate nurse ́s experiences of caring for patients with sepsis. Method: General literature review that included 11 articles that were analyzed according to Popenoeet al. Results: Three categories were identified: Own resources, work environment and cooperation and standardization. Conclusion: The conclusion of this literature review showed that clinical experience and education is essential for the care of a septic patient. There is a lack of communication between nurses and doctors, that may have a negative impact on safe care. And that stress has an effect on nurses' abilities to identify sepsis which can lead to extended suffering for the patient.
